Media Management is a specialised area of business administration which teaches the students about development, planning, functioning and brand building of media enterprises. The core task of media management professionals is to build a bridge between the general theoretical disciplines of management and the specifics of the media industry. The course or programmes in media management train students in terms of developing an understanding and experience on how various functions such as production, marketing, human resources, finance and operations are run at a media house. Media management programmes, like other management courses, are a blend of theoretical and practical aspect to get holistic exposure and learning in the field of media and communication. The programmes focus on media economics, strategy and on media and cultural policy. It also gives students pursuing media management course understanding the latest concepts and practices for managing traditional and emergent media platforms.

If you do an MBA in communication Management, you will be managing content. You form the linkage between the creative team and the product expected for your firm. This is a more management-oriented kind of job.

For example, if you are approaching an ad agency for creating your ad for your firm, you would be responsible for giving a brief of what the ad should project the attributes of your product. You specify the target audience and the style of this ad. The ad agency takes your inputs, analyses your brief and their creative team design an ad for your campaign. You would judge their content, decide if there have to be changes and so on. You would also be responsible for targeting, revenue allocation such as what is your spending for the different modes of communication- how much are you going to spend to air this ad on TV, how much on social media, etc.

Feel free to ask if you have any more queries. All the best!!

Hello Pallav,

I would suggest you keep looking for more colleges and keep analysing what all can be done to ensure you dont have to forfeit your job timings for that , there are several colleges that provide distant courses, such as IGNOU etc please do keep checking

as far as BSC IT and BCA is concerned, I would say that you should choose one of them on the basis of the syllabus and the application of either of it on your career growth

All the best

Hi sanjay

Nmims is pretty good college they have mba pharmaceuaticl mangement. This two –years, full time MBA course is a domain specific course which concentrates on preparing the students to enter the pharma sector. After graduation students join the pharmaceuticals industry, some also join consultancy companies.

The following companies have selected students from  MBA Programme.

Abbott, AIOCD, ACG Worldwide, Alembic, Alkem, Bayer, Biocon, Boehringer Ingelheim, Dr. Reddy’s, Eisai Pharma, GSK, IMS Health, Indegene, Infosys, Macleods, Novo-Nordisk, Pfizer, Ranbaxy, Sun Pharma, Torrent Pharma, Vergo Pharma, Zydus Cadila, Microlabs, MSD (India), Novartis, Astra Zeneca, Allergan, Genzyme, and USV Limited.

ALL THE BEST

There have been some fairly interesting insights over here.

However I would recommend NMIMS Mumbai.

SIBM P Scores over NMIMS Mumbai in the following areas:

Batch size, the batch size of SIBM P is around 180 wheras NMIMS Mumbai last year was 600+. However, the cut off this year for NMIMS Mumbai increased, and there are talk of reducing the intake for the current bacth of 201820.

Residential Programme: I agree to a large extent that an MBA Programme should be a Residential Programme and not a Day Scholars Programme. SIBM Pune has a beautiful campus wheras NMIMS Mumbai only has a single Building (Albeitly a huge and sophisticated one)

NMIMS Mumbai scores over SIBM P in the Follwing areas:

Location: It is situated in the heart of the Financial Capital of India. This plays a huge advantage in terms of placement opportunities

The Course Content: Their course content based on the Harvard Curriculum wins hands down.

Opportunites: The opportunities provided at NMIMS are better in terms of committees and Clubs.

Academic Rigour: An MBA is supposed to be a rigorous programme, and NMIMS fullfills this obligation. There have been feedbacks from SIBM P that their course is fairly chilled out (This is Bad)

Also NMIMS is located in a fairly posh area. So you have access to a wide range of ammeneties (restaurants, malls, clubs). However this is not a significant point.

Neutral Points

Fees: Till last year SIBM Pune had a huge advantage over NMIMS with comparitively lesser fees and thus a better ROI. However the fees of SIBM Pune has increased to 20 Lakhs. The fees for NMIMS, as far as I know is 19.25 Lakhs (+/- 0.25 Lakhs). So with Hostel accomodations, itll come to around 24 Lakhs. So if youre from Mumbai, NMIMS by a small margin. If youre not from either cities, you can choose either

Placements: The Median and Average Package of both are more or less similiar with the advantage going to SIBM P(owing chiefly to their low batch size). However seniors from NMIMS Mumbai have told me that the Average package of NMIMS Mumbai is not 12 Lakhs as stated by some sources but rather 14 - 15 Lakhs. Also the highest package of NMIMS Mumbai last year was 34.02 lakhs as opposed to 28 Lakhs by SIBM Pune.

Conclusion:

For Finance, Marketing and IT: Choose NMIMS Mumbai

For HR: Choose SIBM Pune or SCMHRD. (Do notchoose NMIMS over SIBM P for HR)

For Operations: Choose neither. Try and get into NITIE or SJMSOM.
