Dear Aspirant, NIT Rourkela has been successful in placing the students every year. Most of the placement offers are rolled out in CSE and ECE branches specifically. The highest package for an ece student go upto 35-40 LPA. The lowest being around 4-5 LPA. The average is around 9-11 LPA. In 2019. NIT Rourkela reported 53 per cent growth in placements of the graduating batch of 2018 with the highest pay of 39.1 LPA. A total of 212 companies visited the campus this year and made a total of 1016 job offers. The overall faculty is highly experienced and most of them have done their masters and PhD from foreign and reputed organization. The placement percentage is highly satisfactory. More 95% students are placed every year.
Hope this helps.
If you are interested in a career in research, integrated M.Sc. in Physics at NIT Rourkela might prove to be a very good choice. NIT Rourkela is one of the best old technical Institutes of India with excellent infrastructure, faculty and research facilities. As far as the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Departmenrs are concerned most of the students prepare for GRE and GATE and move abroad or to higher technical insititutes like Top IITs and IISc Bangalore for their Doctoral Education.
However you should not expect placements from Physics Department in professional research sector. Most of the Companies like Log9Materials, Intel, TCS Innovation demand a doctoral degree.
There are a couple of Technical Institutions and Coaching Organizations like FIITJEE, Byjus, Vedantu and Sri Chaitanya which recruit M.Sc. Graduates but they are less preferred opportunities.
Of course you can develop new skills and master new technologies like AI, Software and Data Science and NIT Rourkela being an Old Insititute you may find a sea of opportunities from Amazon and PayTM to Flipkart and Honeywell in the Non Core Sector ranging from Software to Management.
Hi Aspirant,
Both the NITs are excellent in every aspect. However the ranking and placements are a notch better in NITK. The campus of NIT SURATHKAL is awesome with a private beach of its own, the only campus with a beach
NITK is an Institution of National Importance. The ranking done by various agencies, however unreliable they are, puts NITK among the top Engineering Institutions in the country. A real and true evaluation is very difficult to get. Only people who have a first hand information can make a correct assessment of the standard of an Institution. It is very important to note that as far as under-graduate courses are concerned, Teaching-learning process is the most important component to be considered while evaluating the Institute. Opinion of the students is very important but is not reliable for obvious reasons. As a student, nobody dares to make adverse comments on the course content, quality of teaching and evaluation as he/she will be obviously worried about the marks/grade which will be decided by the Instructor.
I hope it helps you.

The Department of Life Science at NIT Rourkela is envisioned to be a state-of-the-art department which emphasizes on the understanding of mechanisms of life processes at molecular and cellular levels in all living systems. The life sciences dept. is much much better than it used to be earlier. Faculties are quite helpful and understanding. The dept. has well equipped laboratory facilities to allow cutting edged research go in full flow. Research in NITR is as such really good, and so is in the Life Sciences department. If you want to go for pure life sciences research,NIT RKL is not at all a bad option.
