    Course Overview

This Mental Health Theory and practice training is a six weeks online course. This course was designed and offered by the University of AlaskaX through the platform EDX. This course was explained by Christina Ireton who was an assistant professor at the University of Alaska Fair bank.

Students in this course will learn how to assess and manage mental health patients using a person-centered approach. Learners will also be introduced to community-based care models and the advantages of working with multidisciplinary teams.

This course uses a strengths-based and socioecological structure, as well as a healing model, to help someone with a mental disorder move beyond survival and encourage them to thrive, based on the belief that having recovered from mental health challenges is possible and that the most effective recovery is client-directed. This method is based on four dimensions of recovery: health, home, purpose, and community. Participants will get to choose to enroll either in the free audit track that offers limited course access or they can select the paid version which is the verified track.
