According to the eligibility criteria, General category candidates need to score 60% in individual subjects (P+C+M/B) and unreserved category need 50% in the same. In case of your son, he got a pretty decent rank but sadly doesn't satisfy the eligibility criteria, so he won't be able to get admission

there is very low chances of getting the CSE in the vellore since it would be below the 7k where as it might varry any way during the councelling try for first the vellore later you opt which  you want but both the vellore and chennai campus are

According to previous years' cutoffs, you'll be able to get VIT Vellore, but not a very reputed branch. I'm attaching a link to check the closing ranks for previous years. Some of the branches you'd be able to get would be Biotechnology, ECE, EEE, etc.

Sorry, you have scored very less marks in JEE MAINS to be eligible for good colleges. 

VIT colleges do not take admissions on the basis of JEE MAINS results. It conducts its own entrance exam known as VITEEE.

I can only say that on the base of the rank it's really hard to get CSE at VIT UNIVERSITY, but on the base of the given RANK, you can get other departments in other campuses.

But if you only want to take VIT UNIVERSITY MAIN campus OR

Pls guide for the chances as per the above preferences.
