Student Reviews

Very interestingly boring

Posted on 11 Feb' 17 by ASHISH KUMAR
Batch of Jan. 1, 2016 | B.Tech Mechanical Engineering
It has a lush green campus sprawling across 30 acres of land. It is next to Kolkata Durgapur state highway. It has very well maintained canteen with tasty veg and nonveg foods. Also, it has a very large library consisting of about 10000 volumes. But according to me, it must have both boys and girls hostel inside the campus, because living in rented rooms of Bolpur Shantiniketan is not very profitable. Also, it should have separate buildings for each branch of engineering. Currently, it has two branches in one building. One more thing that it must have is sports equipment and sports arena where different sports can be practised. What it currently have is only a cricket ground with lot ditches and a poorly maintained volleyball court. College can increase its corporate exposure very easily. It is just an hour far from Kolkata where a lot many mechanical civil and IT companies have well-settled branches. It can contact them for industry experience and various industry experts visits to the college can add to its value. Actually, from the surface, it looked quite interesting but at the ground level, it was boring and discouraging also. I dreamt of having a lot of activities in my college and these were there but just for the sake of a name, no one was really interested in bringing their talent up nor the college neither the students. Also several times I found that college does not want to arrange any fests or fresher parties or farewell ceremonies because students demand a fraction of monetary support from the college. It is a highly discouraging thing that one sitting at the top who actually has the power to do all the good is not responding properly. First of all, it should make its students excellent enough to sit in a placement interview and crack that. Even if a company visits it will not select your dumb and deaf students who cannot utter few grammatically correct lines in front of the interview panel. Secondly, it should arrange old students meet every year. This will provide a significant knowledge exchange for the current immature college students with very experienced old working professionals who once graduated from the same place and went on to make their own platform. First of all college hostel lagged is cleanliness. Second, it must have well-educated caretakers like hostel warden and all those who remain at hostel every time. What it currently having is a bunch of old village peoples for taking care of each and everything at the hostel premises. These people don't know to talk and behave properly with engineering students. Sometimes this results in a brawl or punishment to boarders. Student diversity of the college is very good. It helps the students to mingle with students of different religion, place who have an altogether different culture and ways to celebrate festivals. Overall it has students from about 6 to 7 states having a majority of them from west Bengal-Bihar and Orissa. College professors need to be more proficient in their profession. I guess they have taken the things for granted. Many of them have loads of experience and knowledge, they are very excellent in their area but certainly, there are few who are just the post fillers of assistant professors. One remarkable thing I noticed is that teachers don't have any decorum. You cannot identify them as professors with their manners and student interaction. College is very much affordable in terms of hostel fees and college fees. Hostel and College charges are not less as compared to other colleges but yes they are in line with them.
