I felt trapped as if I was locked inside a room with countless number of keys. Alright coming back to it, take a look at the following:- 1)Infrastructure- Very poor. 2)Faculty- Some professors are okay-ish but they will all seem to be way better in contrast to the other professors (oh yes i heard some of those good teachers are also resigning). 3) Placements-Doesn't matter. It is all same in most "average" private engineering colleges. 4)Social Life - LOL 5)If you want a holistic development this college is not for you. 6)Labs- Average. 7)Outdated curriculum. My advice -- 1)Practice coding and other technical aspects. Do lots of moocs and projects. 2)Keep an average attendance and an average CGPA. 3)Improve your public speaking skills. 4)Networking(not need to explain). 5)If you are from ECE but interested in Computer Science like me, do the same above. And lastly, don't follow your friends and rules blindly.

How is the campus life at IEM, Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata? The campus life is far worse than that of most colleges. To be frank the ambience is that of a school where you are under surveillance all the time and your movements are recorded by the CC cameras. In this context let me brief a bit about the 3 different campuses of IEM in Salt Lake,Kolkata. The Ashram campus is for the BBAs and amongst the other two at College More, the one located adjacent to the Traffic Police kiosk(Gurukul Campus) is for the second, third and fourth years of ECE,CSE and IT streams and the other one located opposite to the Godrej Waterside(Management Building) is for the MBAs, first year of all streams (ECE,CSE,IT,EE,ME)and second, third and fourth years of ME & EE. So being an ECE student I had been in the Management campus for one year only and the remaining 3 years I have been in the Gurukul Campus. The salary range was 3 to 5 lpa. Many students went for MS, MBA, MTech, after getting placed or after working for 2 to 3 years. Then the batch size increased and the multiple offers stopped. It makes sense that way, One IT Company is very like another IT Company. Then, IEM expanded even more and yes, placements doesn't get wrapped up in two days like it used to happen when we graduated. But still 100% people get placed and the salaries are at par, with industry standards. Every student who gets admission in IEM will graduate with a job, that's the promise and the college till date , has delivered it. Students are bright, at least 60% of them are. For those into robotics, coding, music, photography and other cool stuff, you will have people interested in them...you have to search a bit. But the overall atmosphere gets you into contact with some bright minds, inspiring profs and many go for higher studies. Being placed is something no-one worries about, except maybe when the companies come hiring. The rest of the time, one can cultivate one's hobbies or study for entrances. Faculty in IEM, Kolkata is good.. I'm saying good not the best. Being a student of iem, I will only say that the faculty in this college is good and far better than any other faculty of other private colleges in West Bengal... Most of the faculty are aged and experienced one... I would suggest you to go through the college website to get good picture of the college, fee structure, placements and also get to know about some of the alumini.

IEM or Institute of Engineering and Management is one of the oldest and top privated colleges of Kolkata. Basically admission to IEM is done through IIT-JEE and WBJEE. The cut- off rank for students wanting to secure a seat in IEM is upto 2000 in WBJEE and for students appearing in JEE exam, one needs to qualify Jee-Mains in order to get admitted. However, the cut-off may vary every year. I completed my B.Tech from year in the year and 2014 and am currently employed with WIPRO, Delhi since two years. Every aspect of IEM is worth praising and is detailed as follows - 1.) Campus life - Campus life of IEM is awesome. With a wide campus that encloses various basic amenities inside the campus, it makes a students life easy. Me and my friends used to hangout till late night in our hostel roofs. One of the best places for friends hangout is the college canteen and Randhari Chacha’s tea. Nothing could beat this combination. The best thing about IEM is that no one is forced whatsoever to do anything. Students can attend classes or they cannot. Action is only taken when matters gets a little serious. Our favourite timepass was the ground where we used to hit the cricket during Sundays. 2.) Fee structure - Admission to IEM for B.Tech four year course has an expenditure of Rs 42, 000 per semester(excluding hostel and mess facility), and the fees gradually increases every year. 3.) Hostel facility - Limited boarding & lodging are available separately for both boys & girls. The hostels are split separately for boys and girls and the students are placed according to their respective years in B.Tech. However the availability of rooms are limited and the students who fail to acquire a room in the college hostel are accommodated in the hostels outside the college campus. Within the college campus, the fees of the hostels are Rs 5000 – Rs 7500 per month which includes fooding facility, AC and Non-AC rooms, etc. This fees is included in the fees structure of the college. Outside the campus, hostels are a little cheaper ranging from Rs 3500 – Rs 7000. The hostels are split into rooms that are shared by three students and a barely minimum space available. However there is an additional option for separate bathrooms which requires a higher fee. For students opting for PGs, the price is around Rs 3500 to Rs 8000 per month depending on the facilities provided 4.) Mess facility - Food is available as purely veg for vegetarians and purely no-veg for non-vegetarians. Mess food however is equally odd in every place. There has always been a bad reputation for mess food in practically every college of India unlike some very sophisticated college. My college IEM isn’t an exception either. The first year I spent in the college hostel, food was simply worth gulping. In the second year, I shifted to a hostel outside the college campus and the food was slightly better there compared to its previous one. In the third year, me and a few friends shifted to a PG and food were made by us only so we didn’t have to complain about mess food. However food is strictly of bad taste in the mess here and even though the items do have a certain portion of Non-Veg stuff, the availability of chicken or egg or fish failed to charm the students, or me precisely. 5.) Faculty - The faculty of IEM is among the best in West Bengal. The professors are highly qualified and equally friendly in their behaviour. Minimum qualification of a professor is a Masters degree and most of them are Doctorates in their respective field. 6.) Placements - IEM holds a strong position among other private colleges in terms of placement. According to a recent study, it has provided 100% placement to its students for the past seven years. n our batch, everyone got placed within 5 days. 80% of the batch had multiple offers. I personally had 3 offers. I am presently working with ITC Infotech since 1 year and my salary is around Rs 30000. The college has four placement officers under the chairmanship of the Institute's director who work as placement cell. Many reknown companies hoist their cells to recruit students from IEM. Some of the very famous companies that are known to regularly recruit IEM graduates are: •Tata Consultancy Services •Cognizant Technology Solutions •Wipro Technologies •Price Waterhouse Coopers •Siemens •Microsoft •Sasken •Infosys •Capgemini The companies along with their average packages and students recruitment are as follows: 1.Microsoft(offers as high as 15 lakhs packages) – Recruits 5-6 students approx. 2.INFOSYS(offers 2-4 lakhs) – Recruits 100-150 students approx. 3.WIPRO(offers 2-4 lakhs) – Recruits 50-100 students approx. 4.Capgemini(offers 5-6 lakhs) – Recruits 10 students approx. 5.TATA consultancy services(offers 6-7 lakhs) – Recruits 10-15 students approx. Amongst other companies are IBM, ACC, NESTLE, VODAFONE, IDEA, KOTAK, TECH MAHINDRA, RELIANCE, SATYAM, LNT, HSBC, INDIAN ARMY, ASIAN PAINTS, ICICI, HP, ACCENTURE, BHARTI AIRTEL, ERRICSON, FINTECH, LEXMARK International, KLONEMARK, TEOCO, ADP, etc. Almost 60-70 percent of the students are recruitrecruited by INFOSYS, INFOTECH, COGNIZANT and WIPRO every year regularly. 7.) College events - IEM hosts a number of Technical, Culltural and Management fest throughout the year. These festivals are for the entertainment and knowledge purpose of students. A lot of colleges participate in these fests and some very reknowned personalities also attend to perform in such fests. INNOVACION - Innovacion is the annual technological fest of Institute of Engineering and Management, organized in association with University of Engineering and Management. It celebrates technical prowess and out of the box thinking. It helps participants to think, ideate, innovate and push themselves to go that extra mile. It is a medium through which the youth can express their views, their creativity, their talent and their technological skills. The fest has a plethora of technical and non-technical events ranging from Robotics, Coding, Electronics, Management, Core Science and Mathematics, Gaming and a number of other fun and adrenaline-gushing events. Apart from these events, many workshops and trainings are carried out that aid students bring the them face to face with the leading and emerging technologies of the world, which is set to be a very enlightening experience for the budding creative minds. IEMCON is another such grand fest which witnesses huge participation. IEMCON is organized in the Science City Auditorium. Stream toppers are felicitated on that day. Awards are also given to students for their all-round performance. IEMCON also witnesses speeches from eminent professors across the nation. 8.) Extra Curricular - IEM holds a number of short term courses, seminars and workshops to enhance the participation of students into various extra curricular activities that boosts knowledge. Various seminars like International Conference on “Innovative Techno management solutions”, National Seminar on Technology Invasion in Social Lifestyle, Toy Technology, Could Computing, Strategic HR audit are directed towards the enlightment of students knowledge in various fields like Computing, Business, Enterpreneurship, etc. Another best thing about college life is the parties and hangouts we get to attend. From “Freshers Party” in the first year to individual hostel parties, everything holds a special memory in the students heart. The freshers party is generally organised by seniors to welcome juniors. IEM holds competitions among departments on who conducts the best freshers party. Hostel parties are a part of the ongoing process. Every students birthday in our batch constituted into an elaborate party which later turned out to be an event where the Warden would come running to chase us into our rooms. These experiences would stay by forever. Final Verdict - I believe every students college is the best in his/her opinion. And the time they spent there is the best moment of their life. My four years in IEM(2010-2014) were the best phase of my life. IEM was and is like my next home. I made a lot of friends and a few enemies, not to forget that. However the experiences I had been through here will always be cherished. There is nothing bad I have to say about IEM. It’s the best college in my opinion and I recommend it to every student aspiring for WBJEE. All I have to say about IEM is that when you arrive here, you won’t be disappointed.

IEM college is the best private enginnering college in the state of West Bengal. The director even compares this college with the IITs. Apart from education, don't expect much from this college. The director thought of making a school and end up makin the college. It is more strict than a primary school. Attnedance is compulsory in this college.:) BEST of ALL - Campus sing which plays the most important part in the life of a student is an integral part of this college. The placement cell makes sure that every student is placed at the end of 4th year. It has got a 100% placement record. Overall, if you are looking for a college where you can bunk classes at your will, this college is not for you.

Well speaking about this college, Its probably the best private engineering college under MAKAUT. It has got a very good placement records. Although it has not got a good infrastructure but amazingly good academics record. If one has no interest in infrastructures and recreation u can obviously choose this college. The college is situated in salt lake sec-V. It has not got all the buildings in the campus, students need o travel to other campus for which they need to walk a little. It doesn't have any extra curricular activities. Overall its a good college only on the academics point of view and I believe they have to work great another fields too which I think is required for one in its engineering career.

Many people with rank of 1000-2000 in WBJEE ask this question. So as an alumni of IEM let me comprehensively answer your question. 1.) JU students will start with, we are XX years old institute, see our alumni, see our name, where is IEM in front of us? But the truth is Jadavpur's engineering department is on a downhill journey. Had their Civil and IT department be so good why would their cutoff be on par with a new institute like IEM? 2.) IT is a relatively new stream so I don't know much about it. As for branch comparison CSE>Civil>IT. So the obvious choice should be CSE 3.) As JU is govt. funded you don't have to worry on the financial part, but IEM is also quite affordable. 4.) Placement: IEM CSE's department boasts of 100% placement. And placement is not only limited to TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, but top students do earn intern ship’s at Microsoft, Flip kart and high paying jobs at Amazon! So overall, I would suggest you to take your decision not by seeing the past but eyeing the future:)

This college is the best( no. - 1) college of West Bengal as a privat B-Tech engineering college approved by AICTE and affiliations WBUT(MAKAUT). The Institute is ranked among the top 100 colleges in India. IEM group has recently opened a university in Kolkata named University of Engineering & Management(UEM), Kolkata.IEM has a strong collaboration with UEM, Kolkata to maintain a good environment of study and help each other in academics, research and faculty exchange programs. Institute has strong placement cell. Four placement officers under the chairmanship of the Institute's director work as placement cell. Very effective Campus Interview is a regular feature of the institute. The college is very good and I heard about it from my best friend. He told me about the faculties of the college, the management is very good, they tried to provide the best so their students could do better in future, after enquiring all that I found this correct and finally I send my younger brother to the college to take the admission. So in my opinion and what my friend and brother told me I found this college good for studying.

This college has got a very experienced faculty. Most of them are PhD holders and very skilled in their fields. The library of this college is just stunning. The college organises a good amount of student training programmes and workshops to give industry exposure. The placement here is very good with most of the students bagging high paid jobs. The only bad thing about this college is that it is very strict. Overall you will love your college life.

The title is the slogan of my college, but the college, as it suggests, is not just about job placements. Though not one of the IITs or NITs, IEM is ranked as the best private institute for engineering in kolkata. I am not personally affiliated with many people pursuing management but the management infrastructure and faculty is also pretty renowned. In the degree that I am pursuing, that is B.Tech, I find my teachers to be thorough in all subjects and the effort they put in for teaching their students is unparalleled. My building is also located next to two beautiful and adjacent lakes which makes recess a fun a time as well, not to mention the multitude of street food stores which sell cheap and delicious food. Our college is also famous for it's innovations lab which is directly funded my the government. Our college has produced several successful entrepreneurs, research scientists, scholars and definitely made sure that there was 100% placement after graduation. IEM is one of the best private institutions in the state, if not the country and I would definitely encourage aspiring engineers to apply for it.

First of all I would like to tell u that if you don't want to be in a college that has strict rules like school don't come here. This college is very strict in every respect, be it uniform or morning prayer. However the quality of education is good and most of the professors are very helpful and approachable. This college has a very good library with the latest books available. The placement record of this college is good and the average salary is also high. The are a lot of student training programmes throughout the year. This college has a very good academic environment. However the college life fun ruined due to the strictness, although you will cope with it within a year. Overall this is a very good college.

Engineering at IEM Kolkata

The best and the most important information about IEM Kolkata is that it's completely ragging free campus. In fact, no one has ever heard about it also which is like very rare among all other engineering colleges of India. Although it does not have a great infrastructure but it has the good faculty to back it up. Moreover, every student gets a lot of opportunities to excel in different areas. Placements cell is very good here and almost all eligible students get placed here every year.

IEM, Kolkata is the best private college in West Bengal. Though it has very small campus, but the facility and placement is pretty good. Attendance rule is very strict, you have to follow. Its more of school like than college. There are a number of learned professors who will help you in doing any research if you want to. The library of our college is well equipped with lots of books and computers with internet facility. Highest package offered last year was 15.5 lakh ctc

Campus has no sports infrastructure like cricket ground or badminton courts etc. It had a dearth of real estate as the main building area is small compared to other colleges like Techno India, Kolkata in the area and elsewhere. Had no dedicated space for some of the clubs / groups that was operating in any free space they could find on the campus at that moment. More hands-on session with some of the leading industry of the domain and not just a simple one hour Q/A session which had limited scope. Students should be allowed to choose their own domain and not enforced by the authorities. Having an outdated predetermined syllabus for the whatever practical session we have had was never enough in an industry which is ever-changing. In short, more relevant hands-on session on topics that are cutting edge with better planning of syllabus. Not restricting students to enjoy on campus. Not enforcing strict discipline which was unnecessary. More involvement in culture and other areas apart from core academics. Allowing students to pursue their dream outside of normal curriculum. Not treating students as some sort of prisoner stuck in a prison cell [read campus boundary]. Offers received from Wipro, CTS, Infosys and an early stage startup - SeenIt Though I never lived in hostel personally, I can iterate what some of my friends who lived in hostel had to say. It was unhygienic in places like the washroom or the stairways. Never well-maintained. Food was ok, but personally seeing the hostel myself whenever I used to visit my friends there, it was disgusting and very unhygienic. Apart from some professors and other faculty members in our department, rest were simply incapable to even teach the subject. It was apparent from the very first impression with those professors and was concrete when we interacted with them. So much so, we used to bunk those classes and go to library or do something productive, but as mentioned before, it was against the strict discipline of the college and those who were caught was punished. Better and relevant skills and some expertise in the subject they were teaching, not necessarily a degree from reputed colleges like IITs, but some enough knowledge to effectively teach us the subject in a fun and interesting way and to handle most of our queries regarding it. Even with weak faculty pool and lack of decent infrastructure and the very strict rules and regulations, surprisingly we had some genuine good intellectual folks back then, who could be of the level of IITs or NITs or other reputed colleges / universities of the country and beyond. Having a diverse intellectual pool is the one downright thing that kept me going in my college years. Those were some memorable experiences that I cherish for the rest of my life. Alas given the right exposure and freedom, we could have achieved much more than what we did. We had batch mates who went to reputed universities abroad for higher studies, some cracked the GATE and secured seats in the reputed universities back in our country. Some had secured multiple good placement offers from decent companies. Its fee structure is not as high as of the private colleges in the region. Apart from that the surrounding place like eateries outside of college was cheap and being located in a bustling zone, it was approachable from more locations, making public transport cheaper, reliable and frequent.

Teachers are more book oriented, there never cared about our passion, placement cell only wants you to get placed in IT company with CTC around 3-4 LPA where college like BITS, KIIT has changed the way they do campus placement. I really regret studying here.

There is a small campus , old building , no any playground for any sports. college can strengthen corporate exposure by inviting many core companies & enhance research facilities. college must freedom to students so that student may enhance their idea other than study

I will not suggest my juniors to join this college. Yeah few college faculties are awesome. If few IT giants boycott this college then students are in trouble. In the name of infrastructure all you will notice is a building ..yeah you heard that right. No campus just a old building. If its not your one of the last option do not join this college.

If few companies like TCS, infosys and congnizant avoid this college during placement days, i bet 90% of the students will remain jobless. I would personally recommend a 12th passout to look for good colleges if you want job and don't want to pursue higher studies or prepare for competitive exams like UPSC, GATE etc. Good luck.
