Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering is four years (8 Semester) full-time undergraduate engineering program affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Thiruvananthapuram and approved by AICTE.
Civil Engineering is a professional Engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways. The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 1991. The department offers B Tech Programme with an intake of 60 and M-Tech programme in Transportation Engineering with an intake of 18. There are 12 registered Ph.D. scholars. The department was approved as a QIP center by AICTE. There are well-equipped laboratories in all the major disciplines like Material testing, Geotechnical, Environmental, Transportation, and Surveying. Also, there is a concrete durability testing lab, the only one of this kind in Kerala, which caters for research needs in concrete durability testing. The department has excellent internal library facilities having more than two thousand volumes of books along with access to Pearson and IET digital libraries. It has subscription towards seven numbers of printed volumes of Journals, thirty-six ASCE e-Journals and 275 Science Direct e-Journals. The department plays an active role in consultancy works and socially relevant projects.
The selection is based on KEAM entrance exam.
A- Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Mathematics separately, and 50 % marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission. However, candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 45% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission under Management Quota in Private Self Financing Engineering Colleges/Government Controlled Self Financing Engineering Colleges. In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry, the marks obtained in Computer Science shall be considered. In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry and Computer Science, the marks obtained in Biotechnology shall be considered. In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry, Computer Science and Biotechnology, the marks obtained in Biology shall be considered. The marks as shown in the mark list of the Board of Examination obtained from the respective Higher Secondary Board shall be considered for academic eligibility.
B- Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or examinations recognised as equivalent thereto, with 50 % marks in Mathematics/Biology separately, and 50 % marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology put together are eligible for admission to the seats reserved for Dairy Farm Instructors of Dairy Development Department for B.Tech. (Dairy Technology). However, the candidates admitted to the course have to take a make-up course in Basic Mathematics (2+0) credits or Applied Biology (1+1) credit as the case may be.
