In the Analog Communication course by Swayam, candidates will learn about the two building blocks of communication - Signals and Systems. They will understand how information is generated, how it can be transmitted to a distant user, and how the user interprets it. The information that needs to be transmitted and delivered to the user is known as a Signal.
Candidates will learn about different channels or media for transmission of signals. They will learn about the inherent imperfections of these media and how to combat and overcome them to facilitate effective communication. Also, they will learn about Noise, which is an unwanted, random signal that hinders communication.
Candidates participating in the Analog Communication programme will learn how to design systems that can filter out the noise and deliver effective communication. This is an undergraduate level programme created by IIT Kharagpur, and focuses on the engineering aspects of analog communication.

Who it is for
The Analog Communication certification course is ideal for students pursuing Electronics and Communication Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
To benefit from the Analog Communication online course, candidates should be familiar with signals and systems.
If candidates wish to get certified, they must pay the examination fee and appear for a proctored exam. Throughout the course, candidates will be given 12 assignments. 25 percent of the average score of their eight best assignments will be considered together with 75 percent of their score in the proctored exam.
Note that the average assignment score should be 10/25 or more, and the exam score should be 30/75 or more. Even if the candidate’s total score is 40/100, they will not qualify for certification if any one of these conditions is not met.
What you will learn
After completing the Analog Communication online course, candidates should have a working knowledge of:
- Fourier Series and Fourier Transform
- Energy and Power Spectral Densities
- Amplitude Modulation
- Modulation Theory
- Sampling Theorem
- Angle Modulation
- Pulse Modulation
- Random Process
- Band-Pass Noise
Step 1: Click on the link below to access the ‘Analog Communication’ course on the Swayam website.
Step 2: Find the “Sign-In/Register” button at the top of the webpage and click on it.
Step 3: Log in to your Swayam account or use your Google, Facebook, or Microsoft account to log in. You can also create an account on Swayam.
Step 4: Follow the instructions on the screen and fill in the requisite details to apply.
Filling the form
The interested learners do not have to fill an application form to enrol for the course; all the need to do is create an account. Alternatively, the candidates can log in via their Google, Microsoft or Facebook account.
Introduction to Fourier Series and Fourier Transform
Amplitude Modulation – AM and DSB-SC
Energy and Power Spectral Densities
Angle Modulation – FM, PM
Pulse Modulation and PCM
SSB-SC and VSB
Introduction to Random Process
Characteristics of Band-Pass Noise
Spectral Analysis of the Random Process
Performance Analysis of AM, DSB-SC with Noise
Candidates can apply to the Analog Communication course by Swayam and learn for free. However, if they wish to get certified, they must pay an examination fee (Rs. 1,000) and appear for a proctored exam at any of the designated exam centres.
Throughout the course, candidates will have to complete a total of 12 assignments. Out of these, the best eight will count towards their final score. To calculate their final score, 25 percent of the average score from these eight assignments will be added to 75 percent of their score in the 100-mark proctored exam.
The candidate’s average assignment score should be 10/25 or more, and their exam score should be 30/75 or more. Even if their total is above 40/100, they will be ineligible for certification if they don’t satisfy any one of these conditions.
How it helps
The Analog Communication course will teach candidates all they need to know about Analog Communication in 12 short weeks. Candidates can apply to this course and learn for free. But if they pay an examination fee, write the proctored exam, and meet the certification criteria, they will get certified by IIT Kharagpur and NPTEL. This certification will add tremendous value to their CV/Resume and help them land lucrative jobs after graduation. Besides, this course delves deep into the theoretical concepts of analog communication and covers all the key concepts of this topic.
You can complete the Analog Communication course in 12 weeks or three months.
The Analog Communication course is being offered by IIT Kharagpur and NPTEL.
You don’t need to pay any admission fee. You can apply to the course and learn for free. However, you will have to pay an examination fee if you wish to take the exam and get certified.
The examination fee is Rs. 1,000. But it is not compulsory. Candidates who don’t wish to take the exam, don’t need to pay the examination fee.
No, only e-certificates will be awarded. No hard copies will be dispatched.
The e-certificate will have your name and photograph on it. Your final score, along with the breakup, will also be included. It will have the logos of IIT Kharagpur and NPTEL.
