It should be noted that both the branches are very well in VIT Vellore. The infrastructure, placements, faculty, facilities are all very good, also the academics.

Now coming to placements, if you wish to pursue mechanical further and get a job in the core then very few companies

I believe, you should never consider a Branch lower than CSE, IT or least ECE, when your dicuss admission in Private Universities like VIT, KIIT, SRM or Manipal. Candidates who have completed 10+2 or diploma from the recognized states are eligible to get admission in VIT. But it is mandatory to have atleast 60% in the diploma. Also, the candidates are given admission on teh basis of VITEEE (an entrance exam) conducted by the VIT itself.

IISER- Indian Institute of Science Education and Research is better than VIT Vellore as VIT is a private institute and IISER is a reputed government college.  IISER will be more beneficial if you want to pusue pure science and research.  If you plan to do masters then too
