48 Months- Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Marine Engineering is a four-year full-time undergraduate course offered by Indian Maritime University, Chennai.
B.Tech.(Marine Engineering) is a residential 4-year undergraduate engineering program that focuses on the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of ships and other marine vessels. This programme is designed in-line with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) for Seafarers. Students who successfully complete this course shall be able to successfully gain employment on-board Indian/ Foreign going Ships as a Marine Engineer.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as mandatory subjects from a recognized board.
Minimum Marks:
- 60% aggregate marks in PCM
- 50% marks in English subject in 10+2 examination.

Maximum age:
- For Male: General-25 years, OBC (NCL) - 28 years, SC/ST-30 years.
- For Female: General-27 years, OBC (NCL) - 30 years, SC/ST-32 years.
*The reference date for calculation of the age will be from the date of commencement of the Academic Session (01.08.2024).
Eligibility - Lateral Entry for admission in 2nd Year
3-years Engineering Diploma in Marine/ Mechanical / Electrical / Electrical & Electronics, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course.
OR
4 years Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% aggregate marks in the last year of diploma course.
OR
1st year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D.G. Shipping (This will not be applicable to MERI).

It is the first marine engineering college of India located at taratala kolkata with one of the finest faculty with Asia's largest workshop of marine engines with a huge no of on campus placement to foreign shipping companies and having a wide global alumni network the facilities include library, swimming pool,play ground for cricket, football,hockey this institute trains for the professional life of a seafarer with standard training regulations

College Infrastructure
My college has a very good infrastructure and is well maintained. We have well maintained class room which has monitors in them and also have a large marine work shop which has every type of machines.

the college area is about 30 acres, there are 4 separate hostels for every year of b.tech, the new academic block is fully air conditioned, and five storied. there is a swimming pool upto 15 feet, a seperate gym for male and female cadete, a workshop, a library, a separate hostels for female cadets, a pond, a garden.
