How is the campus life at IEM, Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata? The campus life is far worse than that of most colleges. To be frank the ambience is that of a school where you are under surveillance all the time and your movements are recorded by the CC cameras. In this context let me brief a bit about the 3 different campuses of IEM in Salt Lake,Kolkata. The Ashram campus is for the BBAs and amongst the other two at College More, the one located adjacent to the Traffic Police kiosk(Gurukul Campus) is for the second, third and fourth years of ECE,CSE and IT streams and the other one located opposite to the Godrej Waterside(Management Building) is for the MBAs, first year of all streams (ECE,CSE,IT,EE,ME)and second, third and fourth years of ME & EE. So being an ECE student I had been in the Management campus for one year only and the remaining 3 years I have been in the Gurukul Campus. The salary range was 3 to 5 lpa. Many students went for MS, MBA, MTech, after getting placed or after working for 2 to 3 years. Then the batch size increased and the multiple offers stopped. It makes sense that way, One IT Company is very like another IT Company. Then, IEM expanded even more and yes, placements doesn't get wrapped up in two days like it used to happen when we graduated. But still 100% people get placed and the salaries are at par, with industry standards. Every student who gets admission in IEM will graduate with a job, that's the promise and the college till date , has delivered it. Students are bright, at least 60% of them are. For those into robotics, coding, music, photography and other cool stuff, you will have people interested in them...you have to search a bit. But the overall atmosphere gets you into contact with some bright minds, inspiring profs and many go for higher studies. Being placed is something no-one worries about, except maybe when the companies come hiring. The rest of the time, one can cultivate one's hobbies or study for entrances. Faculty in IEM, Kolkata is good.. I'm saying good not the best. Being a student of iem, I will only say that the faculty in this college is good and far better than any other faculty of other private colleges in West Bengal... Most of the faculty are aged and experienced one... I would suggest you to go through the college website to get good picture of the college, fee structure, placements and also get to know about some of the alumini.

IEM, Kolkata is the best private college in West Bengal. Though it has very small campus, but the facility and placement is pretty good. Attendance rule is very strict, you have to follow. Its more of school like than college. There are a number of learned professors who will help you in doing any research if you want to. The library of our college is well equipped with lots of books and computers with internet facility. Highest package offered last year was 15.5 lakh ctc

IEM lacks in the basic facilities like that of sports. It only has a TT room. As far as education is concerned it is purely bookish and no attempt is made to involve students in internships or something similar. The rules and regulations are too rigid considering the fact that its a college. But, despite that the placement cell is very active and good. The professors are good but not very friendly in most situations.

Although rated as one of the top engineering colleges in Bengal, campus life in IEM is despicable. This is partly because there isn't much of a "campus" and partly because of the extremely strict regime. Some often say that high school was more liberating than IEM. However, the two things the college can boast about are faculty and placements. The faculty (most of them) are really qualified and they diligently take classes. They are mostly helpful and approachable. Finally, IEM has an enviable placement cell and boasts of cent percent placement records. IEM is ideal for you if you want a college with proper facilities and ambiance for serious education away from college politics and similar education impeding stuff.

A college that is good for studious people

When I joined IEM it felt like a jail, you needed very high attendance and to top it there was a lot of restrictions on us. But I later found that this atmosphere is good for studious people only. If you want a proper college life, you can join anywhere you want, since if you are eligible for IEM, you must have a good rank. The teachers are good, help me a lot in my studies and they help you beyond your course as well, some of them are great at coding or robotics, they help you with that. The library is good only if you are fast enough to collect books and have a keen eye since the best books are always in high demand. Placement as much as I have heard and seen is good enough, this year TCS recruited a record number of students.
