Ranaghat Government Polytechnic is a government-affiliated technical institute situated in Ranaghat, West Bengal. The diploma programmes in Engineering approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) at the institute are skill-oriented, theoretically and practically designed for the future career of students. Ranaghat Government Polytechnic considers chiefly state-level entrance examinations for granting admission to its diploma programmes. The following entrance examen is Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics West Bengal (JEXPO), under the auspices of West Bengal State Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD).

For Ranaghat Government Polytechnic admission in the first year, JEXPO is compulsory for the candidates because it tests the students in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The direct admission in the second year is open to candidates taking the Vocational Lateral Entry Test (VOCLET), also conducted by WBSCT&VE&SD, who have done comparable courses in their previous vocational programme.

The following steps are included in the application process:

• Entrance Exam Application: Fill in the online application form for JEXPO (related to first-year admission) or VOCLET (related to second-year direct admission) through WBSCT&VE&SD. Pay the application fee and upload required documents.
• Entrance Exam: Appear for the JEXPO or VOCLET examination on the schedule. The examination examines candidates on Physical Science, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• Result Declaration: Check the results and ranks as published by WBSCT&VE&SD.
• Counselling and Seat Allotment: Go under the counselling process against ranking based on merit. Opt for course and institute preference. Assignments shall be done based on merit and also subject to availability.

Ranaghat Government Polytechnic currently offers three full-time diploma courses in the field of engineering. The total available intake is 180 seats, divided into three equal parts, thus:

• Diploma in Automobile Engineering course total allowed intake: 60 seats. Admitted through JEXPO for entry in the first year and VOCLET for entry in the second year.
• Diploma in Electrical Engineering course total allowed intake: 60 seats. Admitted through JEXPO and VOCLET examinations.
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering course total allowed intake: 60 seats. Admitted through JEXPO for first-year entry and VOCLET for second-year entry by merit.

For all diploma programmes:

• For First Year Admission: The candidate must qualify at JEXPO conducted by WBSCT&VE&SD.
• For Second Year Direct Admission: The candidate must qualify through VOCLET conducted by WBSCT&VE&SD.
