The Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), formerly known as the Symbiosis Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT), a Constituent of Symbiosis International University, Pune was established in 1992 with a view to provide quality management education in International Business following the economic liberalization efforts in 1991. SIIB is a premier Business school and is ranked as 21st Best B-School in India recently in the year 2022. Over the past thirty-one years, the Institute has focused on education, research and training in the field of International Business and other niche-based programmes to equip aspiring global managers with managerial, economic, legal and relevant technical competence. As part of the continued efforts to focus on global issues in Business, the Institute in 2009, created an industry-focused academic programme initiative on Global Sustainability Management  issues through a two-year full-time MBA programme (www.siib.ac.in).

The programme now in its fourteenth year lays strategic emphasis on some of the current global trends in energy, environment and sustainability with reference to thematic areas like corporate sustainability and business strategy, ESG and business sustainability, sustainable energy development and management, conventional energy (coal, oil /gas), renewable energy business and financing, energy and power economics, energy analytics, carbon markets and trading, environment management systems, environmental assessments, life cycle assessments, sustainable supply chain etc. Apart from formal teaching methods, the programme also brings in innovative methods of pedagogy through experienced in-house faculty and visiting faculty consisting of eminent industry experts and academicians. Being an industry-focused course there is added emphasis on curriculum development, industry mentorship and workshops, research and consultancy in emerging areas of Sustainability Management. This includes a strong emphasis on application-based learning through field visits, project assessments, and data analytics.

SIIB ‘s key strength and USP lies in integrating global energy development and environmental concerns and building a new generation of business leaders with managerial, economic, legal and relevant technical competence to provide the crucial link between the world of technology, business and sustainable development. Students who have graduated from this interdisciplinary programme have acquired specialised skill sets to solve complex issues from a global sustainability perspective. The students of this unique MBA- Sustainability Management programme have been successfully absorbed in diverse industry roles e.g. ESG and sustainability managers in Industry, renewable energy managers, power sector consultants, carbon finance specialists, environmental risk management specialists, energy management specialists, green building consultants etc.
