Course Overview

Lighter-than-Air (LTA) systems were once a significant part of Aerospace Engineering, which used to be technological developments’ forefront until the late 1930s when it got shoved into oblivion. However, this subject was finally revived during the mid-1980s when people regained interest in such long endurance applications that consume low fuel. Therefore, the Lighter than Air Systems program enlightens students about this field, its fundamentals, and presents a holistic overview of LTAs.

The Lighter than Air Systems certification syllabus lasts 12 weeks, covering one topic every week. These include LTA systems’ background, developed airships, historical perspectives, static lift estimations, airship design methodologies, aerostat design methodology, and more. Swayam delivers this curriculum through CDEEP’s in-class video lectures, which IIT Bombay’s Professor Rajkumar S. Pant had delivered in 2015.

Eligibility Criteria

The Lighter than Air Systems online course has no minimum requirements and is open to all postgraduate/undergraduate applicants.

Certification qualifying details - Aspirants must register and sit for Swayam’s Lighter than Air Systems certification test, where they need to score >=30/75. They should also secure >=10/25 in their program assignments, which will finalize their eligibility to gain certificates.

Admission Details

Once you do, select ‘Sign-in/Register’ to enrol in this course.
Here, you can either use your Microsoft/Google/Facebook account or fill in the required information to create your Swayam profile. Alternatively, if you already have one, use its credentials to continue with the admission procedure.
Choose ‘send verification code’.
Swayam will send you the account verification code to activate your account, on your registered email ID.

Application Details

Instead of filling up a Lighter than Air Systems online course application form, Swayam requires you to merely create an account and enrol. To do so, you can either provide your username, email, password or use your Facebook/Google/Microsoft profile to register.

The Syllabus

Evaluation process

Learners must fill up Swayam’s registration form, pay the requisite fee, and sit for their proctored Lighter than Air Systems certification test. This will commence on 24 April 2021, at Swayam’s designated centers, where students can opt between two sessions.

The examination score will be the test mark’s 75% score out of 100, and the average assignment marks will be a candidate's eight best assignments’ 25% score, out of the 12 they’re provided. The final score will be the addition of these two scores, where students should maintain >=10/25 for the assignments, and >=30/75 for the test, to avail of the Lighter than Air Systems certificate. If they fail to fulfill these criteria, Swayam won’t award certificates even if they secure >=40/100 in total.
