Hello Aspirant,

As you have not mentioned your category so assuming it as general.

See as we know that cut-offs for this year has not been declared because the counselling has not started yet so we can guide you according to previous year's cut-offs. If we go through previous year's cut-offs, then it suggests that you cannot get any branch in IIT Madras if you are male and if you are female then you can get following branches :-

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
  • Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering

Note that the above data is according to previous year's cut-offs and cut-offs are bound to change every year depending upon various factors.

For more details about previous year's cut-offs, you can refer to the PDF file given in the link below :-

Hi Gowtham,

Hope you are doing well! IIT Madras selects candidates based on their JEE advanced score and the ranks primarily. These ranks keep varying every year. Also another important factor of consideration is your category. Based on your category the closing rank would vary. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority will declare the cut offs of individual colleges and the courses in their official website.

Hi Aspirants,

IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur both are one of the top colleges in India to pursue engineering. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering are two of the three oldest branches of engineering in India. Pursuing B.Tech in either of them have different scopes. Both branches have a vast scope in government sectors, whereas Electrical Engineering has a one-inch upper hand than Mechanical Engineering in the Private sector.

So, I will suggest you go for either of the options. But solely on your interest and passion rather than any other stats.

All the best for your career and future endeavors.
