    Course Overview

Swayam offers the Material Characterization certification course at both UG and PG level. The training is provided under the category of Electronic Materials, Metallurgy & Material Science, and Mining Engineering. It is the first course on the microstructural characterisation of materials at the undergraduate level.

Moreover, the Material Characterization certification syllabus is spread across 12 weeks. The curriculum covers the basic techniques and principles of scanning electron, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. Other core topics covered include Optics fundamentals, image formation, and X-ray scattering.

The Material Characterization course also provides instrument details demonstrations and imagining experiments using video examples. Numerous technique demonstrations are also included to provide practical examples of sample preparation techniques for microstructural analysis and optical microscopes. If you are a postgraduate or undergraduate from a relevant field, then you can join the Material Characterization programme to gain a comprehensive knowledge of microstructural characterisation. And earn a course certificate to testify your newly acquired learnings.

    Eligibility Criteria

The Material Characterization programme does not demand any prior qualifications or prerequisites. You can join the course for free.

Further, Swayam offers a certificate based on two certification qualifying criteria. The final score will comprise your average assignment score and certification exam score. You will need to submit 12 assignments throughout the course for marking. Swayam will consider 8 of your best-scored assignments to calculate the average score. And 25 % of that average score must be >= 10/25 to qualify.

Also, 75% of your certification exam score must be >=30/75. If you don't meet any of the two criteria, you will not receive the Material Characterization certificate.

    What you will learn

Once you finish the Material Characterization course by Swayam, you will have mastery over the following topics:

    • Optics fundamentals
    • Optical microscope details
    • Phase contrast
    • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
    • Fluorescence microscopy
    • Polarised light
    • Phrase contrast
    • Imagining techniques
    • X-ray scattering basics
