Batch of 1995 | MBA
Basic infrastructure including Library, Hostel is very Poor. No good canteen or mess. Faculty is also below standard and not student friendly, especially the guest faculty from Calcutta University No proper placement cell lacking marketing the institute among corporates. Biased in admissions, evaluations and placements

A good mba college with high returns in Kolkata

Batch of 2018 | MBA
It's a very good MBA college with good placements recorded year after year. The faculty is the best part of the college along with industry exposure. The main thing of concern is its infrastructure which doesn't match of any good MBA institution. Still, overall I will rank it high based on its affordability.

Stepping stone to success

Batch of 2009 | Master of Human Resource Management
College life was great, my classmates were from all over India, faculties were highly educated and experienced. There were renowned guest faculties as well. Infrastructure was the good and up to date. Placement could have been better but again 2007 was a recession period.

Batch of 2016 | MSW
MSW course was introduced in 2014. The course is affiliated with Calcutta University. There was no proper curriculum to follow. Faculties were clueless about what to teach or how to proceed as because the course was recently introduced with no one having a background in MSW it was very difficult for the professors to manage the syllabus.College administration should work on this and offer students better placement opportunities.

Faculty and Placement both are good, ample scope to learn.

Batch of 2018 | MBA
The faculty of MBA (Day) course is very good. The course is much more on theory-based, practical aspects are less present. That is a drawback. College life is normal, not that much vibrant. Various clubs & committee are present, which are run by the students. Many events take place during the year, which is well organised and pretty relevant to the MBA course. The placement body is very much active and placement is almost 100% for every batch. There is a Gym for the enthusiasts. The hostel is provided for boys and girls separately.

About College:

The Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM) is located in the city of Kolkata, capital of West Bengal. Kolkata has long been known as one of the commercial, as well as cultural hubs of India. The IISWBM was established in the year 19563. This makes it the oldest business school in all of India. It is also the oldest in all of south and south- east Asia regions, imparting management education programmes. The then Chief Minister of West Bengal- Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy- played a key role in its establishment. The National Doctors’ Day in India is commemorated on his birthday that falls on the 1st July.

The IISWBM has been affiliated to the University of Calcutta since 1931. This affiliation ensures the approval of the UGC (University Grants Commission). The primary course has also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). There are plenty of courses on offer, here at the Kolkata- based Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management from the master’s level onwards. The flagship programme is the MBA. At the same level, there is also the MSW (Master’s in Social Work). Management and social welfare have indeed been the key tenets for the college, since its inception. Within the area of management, human resources is accorded key importance here.

In addition, several diploma courses are also offered here. There is the one- year (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) in Business Analytics. The same course is also provided on an Executive MBA platform. This is taken up by working professionals seeking a skill upgrade, but unable to dedicate time for a full two- year programme. Some innovative one- year management programmes may also be availed under this scheme. They are the Post Graduate Diplomas in the areas of Sports Management, Media Management and in Supply Chain & Logistics Management. In addition, there lies the Advanced Diploma in Fire Safety Management.

Similarly, there is the Executive PGPM or Post Graduate Programme in Management. An M. Phil may also be taken up here. This is of course more research- oriented. Admissions to these courses is via any of the nationally or internationally recognized entrance exams such as CAT (Common Admission Test), MAT (Management Aptitude Test), XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test), GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) or the CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test). Merit- based scholarships are also provided to the students, based on high scores in these entrance tests. Research is also taken up very seriously by the IISWBM. Some areas in particular are the key areas of concern.

A lot of these key areas, are related to the environment and sustainability, laying down its priorities. Some of these are- Environment Management, Ground water Management, Environment Impact Assessment, Energy Management, Social Impact Assessment, Clean Development Mechanism, Renewable Energy Management and in Health care & Hospital Management. IISWBM also helps the government bodies during their recruitment drives. Training workshops are also conducted for various corporates. These workshops also help students in connecting with the leading recruiters. The college has even identified a few companies as its Corporate partners. These companies’ trainings are held on campus, while they also help during the campus placements.

Some such leading recruiters in recent years have been the likes of- Amazon, Mother Dairy, HDFC, ICICI Bank, Nielsen, HSBC, TCS, Cognizant, NRI, ITC, RIL, Kantar, Aditya Birla Hindalco, DHL, Philips, Dabur, HUL, M Junction, Linde, Capital First, Tata Capital Limited, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail, PwC and many more. Due to its significant history, the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management in Kolkata also has a rich and highly diverse alumni network. Its alumni is present across organizations and bodies at top positions. Some of those most famous names have been- Laxmi Mittal, Sabyasachi Dasgupta, Shikha Gupta, Kaushik Das, Anindya Gupta, Sudhir Jalan, Sumantra Ghoshal, Debabrata Mukherjee, Bhaskar Das, Ashok Mukherjee, Umesh Hota, Amitava Sain, Nidhi Kalra and Mahuya Chatterjee, besides several more.

The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM, convenience stores and access to public transport may all be availed from immediately outside the college’s campus.  There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is served at the college cafeteria.
