Basic infrastructure including Library, Hostel is very Poor. No good canteen or mess. Faculty is also below standard and not student friendly, especially the guest faculty from Calcutta University No proper placement cell lacking marketing the institute among corporates. Biased in admissions, evaluations and placements

A good mba college with high returns in Kolkata

Posted on 16 Sep' 16 by Aritri Sen
Batch of 2018 | MBA
It's a very good MBA college with good placements recorded year after year. The faculty is the best part of the college along with industry exposure. The main thing of concern is its infrastructure which doesn't match of any good MBA institution. Still, overall I will rank it high based on its affordability.

Batch of 2009 | MBA Human Resource Management
College life was great, my classmates were from all over India, faculties were highly educated and experienced. There were renowned guest faculties as well. Infrastructure was the good and up to date. Placement could have been better but again 2007 was a recession period.

Batch of 2016 | MSW
MSW course was introduced in 2014. The course is affiliated with Calcutta University. There was no proper curriculum to follow. Faculties were clueless about what to teach or how to proceed as because the course was recently introduced with no one having a background in MSW it was very difficult for the professors to manage the syllabus.College administration should work on this and offer students better placement opportunities.

Batch of 2018 | MBA
The faculty of MBA (Day) course is very good. The course is much more on theory-based, practical aspects are less present. That is a drawback. College life is normal, not that much vibrant. Various clubs & committee are present, which are run by the students. Many events take place during the year, which is well organised and pretty relevant to the MBA course. The placement body is very much active and placement is almost 100% for every batch. There is a Gym for the enthusiasts. The hostel is provided for boys and girls separately.

Batch of 2014 | MBA
It is wonderful to be in a college like this. It is the first college to start MBA program. We have a letter from Pandit J.L. Nehru . We do have a very good industry exposure .Most important part of this college is that it is apart of Calcutta University which is 3rd in all over India. We focus not only syllabus study but also other activities. It gives more focus on one's internal knowledge .

A heady mix of Academics coupled with practical know how

Batch of 2004 | MBA
Contrary to what some of the other reviewers have said and what some of the ratings have been, I would like to say that my experience in the institute was quite rewarding. I did my MBA in the evening batch from the years 2001 to 2004, and I must specially mention the faculty of the institute. They did an excellent job in conditioning our minds and motivating us to look at the industry and our workplace in a new light. At the same time they also managed to rekindle our interest and inquisitiveness for further knowledge. The institute was responsible in providing the platform for me to shift from the core industry to a good role in the IT sector and I would strongly recommend the institute and the course to all prospective applicants who have the right background and are willing to go the extra mile and work hard in the institute. Rewards are bound to follow.

Good institute to learn in depth. Excellent n knowledgeable professors in respective fields. We had quite a lot of faculty with Industry exposure and the blend of academics coupled with industry helped us learn in depth. The course content was also pretty structured and encouraged in-depth studies.

The Living Legend - The story of the First B-School of India

Posted on 16 Oct' 15 by Tathagata Ghosh
Batch of 2014
Yes. The title says a lot. An institution with rich tradition and intellectual capital. The first day I entered into the college, a strange feelings of awe appeared in my mind - the old building (like other campuses of the Calcutta University), the old professors, the huge library, and the overall silence - all together a strange chemical formulation. It will take some time for any working IT prof like me to be familiarized with the environment. Now its time to unveil the secrets perhaps the readers don't know. If you have the picture of a 'Bollywood style' MBA college campus, Hitech classrooms, PPT savvy teachers & students in your mind, nothing will match inside this institution. But the key attraction is its highly knowledgeable faculties (you can rely upon the CU blindly with this point). The institute still give more values to theoretical knowledge than applied one. Research papers are given more values than case studies. Your wisdom is given more priority than your soft skills. All these factors made me fall in love with this college. Once IISWBM was mentor to IIM Calcutta. And, trust me, today its courses are designed to produce the mentors for both the corporate world and the world of academics- entrepreneurs can happily turn their career into teaching after attending this institution. I pursued the executive MBA course from IISWBM - evening classes after long office hours, but I used to never miss the thought-provoking lectures which were refreshing enough for a thirsty brain. And off-course, a feel of college life after 3 long years - the cultural club, quiz club, group study at library, the famous 'tea n fish cutlet' at canteen - every thing I enjoyed at the fullest. Had I been Chetan Bhagat, you could have got a trilogy containing the story of the three years I spent there. Until I become another Mr. Bhagat, you have to start your life-changing journey at IISWBM as a student (forget your age, listen to your brain's thirst)..... much more to discover while walking down the lane of nostalgic College Street......

Enhance Exposure Update curriculum

Batch of 2014 | MBA
I had a decent experience with IISWBM. The college has its own old school charm which under no circumstance can be undermined. It still has a solid focus on academics which I believe is fading away from many bschools. However it lacks the exposure that a typical bschool should give to its students. The teaching forum at iiswbm should also wake up and start working towards an updated curriculum. An institute which is half a century old creating a platform for campus to corporate connect shouldn't be an issue given the large alumni base, which unfortunately is not happening.

overall a good college to learn from a good learned faculty. Infrastructure of the college caters to the basic needs of the students. A good placement records has been conceived throughout by this college. The aura of learning is very good but only scope of improvement is the internship facility.

Batch of 2015 | MBA
You make friends for life. Faculty is knowledgeable and experienced. We get good return on investment as the cost is less and we get placement of around Rs.6-7 lpa. Good student to teachers ratio as there is only 120 students. Good societies and clubs are there . You get good industry exposure. Internships are helpful. Many value added courses are taught.

one of the best B-school in kolkata

Ali
Posted on 12 May' 15 by Ali
It is one of the best B-school in kolkata. Admission process is quite fair and the college is able to attract quality students. Though it is one of the oldest B school in india as it was established in 1953. It is not able to maintain standard since its inception. But for eastern india this is a good option and return of investment is satisfactory.
