Miranda House, Delhi Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

An opportunity to reside in the Miranda House Hostel, which has been home to several famous and distinguished alumni in their formative years, is indeed a privilege. In fact, Miranda House was a Residence before it became a college, hence the name Miranda House! The residence which has grown to be a premier college of the country was established in 1948 by the then vice-chancellor, Sir Maurice Gwyer; its foundation stone was laid by Lady Edwina Mountbatten on March 7 of the same year. The red brick building designed by the renowned architect Walter George is an architectural delight, laid out in an aesthetically designed quadrangle enclosing well-kept gardens, paced out by bottle palms. The long corridors, the dining hall with a high arched ceiling, and the stonework balconies add to its charm. Over the last few years, extensive restoration and refurbishment work has been undertaken to preserve the heritage and restore the grandeur of its red brick facade and unique interiors. A new hostel block has been added. It integrates well with the old Walter George construction adding to its beauty with equal grace. Located within the college campus, the residence opens on Chhatra Marg. The day-to-day functioning is taken care of by 2 Hostel Wardens. Miranda House hostel administrative team includes the Principal, the Vice-Principal, the Bursar, Teacher Representatives on the Hostel Committee, the Resident Tutor (if any) and the Hostel Wardens.

The Miranda House has a health centre with a first aid facility for the students. Miranda House Sports Department has a Fitness Centre with Several Exercise machines, including treadmills, exercise bikes, stepper, multigym, etc. Miranda House Facility is available for both faculty and students.

Miranda House library is spread over 3 floors and it has a collection of nearly 1 lakh books. There is a digital resource centre with thirty networked computers with access to the internet, e-resources, etc.

Miranda House facilities include sports facilities which include a fitness centre and also outdoor courts are available for various sports. Students can also enrol in aerobics, yoga and taekwondo classes. Miranda House facility is available for both faculty and students, providing a comprehensive space for physical fitness and exercise.

Miranda House auditorium is a major part of Miranda House infrastructure. College auditorium is available for the students which can be booked for cultural activities.
