Hi Aspirant
NIT Rourkela is one of the premier engineering institutes in the nation.
The Basic Science courses like chemistry, physics and mathematics in NIT Rourkela are good but not the best in the nation.
If you are really interested in pursuing a career with basic sciences then only you should consider joining NIT Rourkela in these departments. But the research work of institutes like IISER and NISER is far better than that at NIT Rourkela.
Hope this helps and All the best.
hey!
I suggest you take NIT Rourkela as
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department of NIT Rourkela was established in 1963 and is one of the oldest departments on the campus. It has seen the institute’s growth over years and boasts of its national stature and prestige. The annual student intake for B.Tech is 60 under the guidance of 20 highly experienced and qualified faculties. With available laboratory facilities, the department cares to carve one out as a proper engineer.
NIT warangal isn't as good in this branch
Dear Aspirant
First of all Congratulating you on your nice performance and I would like to tell you that based on two choices if you look for college then NIT raurkela is better than IIIT srinagar, but if you look for more preferred branches then it's computer science engineering so if you are interested in computer science then you can take admissions in iiit srinagar else if you are interested in food processing then nit raurkela is not bad.
Good luck for your future :)
Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.
Dear aspirant,
It is a famous saying that "choose branch over the college". Going by this, if you have to choose between food processing and computer science and engineering, then I suggest you should go for CSE without second thoughts.
CSE is the best branch placement wise and career opportunities in CSE are way higher than most of the other branches. You could then either go for placements ranging from 6-10lpa from IIIT. This is not the case with the food processing.
Hope this helps.
Thank you.
Hey harshita!
Industrial design at NIT rourkela is a good option . But when it comes to compare between indusstrial design at NIT rourkela and IT dual in IIIT gwalior because the foremost reason is that the latter has a much better future scope than the former. As IT forms the base of software and technology companies and the placements in IIIT gwalior are also good , so you can expect good placements from Iiit gwalior after this course. But you can not expect any placements for industrial design at NIT rourkela . You can only get a job after higher studies.
Hope it helps!
Hey harshita!
The branch that you should choose in NIT rourkela are in the following order of preference:
Biotechnology( better placements)
Industrial design( no placements , but more exposure)
Metallurgy ( better future scope)

The amount of fees to be paid for NIT Rourkela for BTech course is, for general category students the tution fee is 62,500/- for every year and considering hostel fee and other fees in NIT the whole grand total is 7.43 lakhs whole engineering graduation.
For SC, ST and PH candidates will get tution fee exception and they have to pay 1.18 lakhs for whole engineering course.
Hello Venkata, No, NIT Rourkela is not the best NIT for doing mechanical engineering course. These are some of the best NITs which offer the mechanical course:
1- National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli
2- National Institute of Technology, Surathkal
3- National Institute of Technology, Warangal
4- Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad
5- National Institute of Technology, Calicut
Hello Harshita,
Looking from the placement perspective, getting a good pointer will allow you to get a fair chance at securing a job however since this is India, there's a specific company sentiment of chosing mechanical over production and industrial design which is weird given the fact that production and industrial design are much more core branches. The same issue lies with choosing electronics and communication over electronics. Core branches do not get much spotlight here in India so further studies and applying abroad for jobs could be a good option for you. As for the subjects faculty no need to worry about that it's nit rourkela they won't disappoint you.
All the best
Hello
IIT Dhanbad it is, IIT Dhanbad has a better infrastructure and is booming unlike NIT Rourkela.
It gets much more funding from the government than NIT Rourkela it is growing at a good pace and soon will be in comparsion with IIT BHU and has better faculty plus you get that IIT tag.
NIT Rourkela offers an impressive and well-developed infrastructure that enhances both academic and campus life. The institute features a central library, modern lecture halls, and separate, well-equipped hostels for boys and girls. It also provides excellent sports and recreational facilities, including a central sports complex, gym, and courts for games like cricket, football, basketball, and tennis. The campus is equipped with advanced technology to support learning and research. In addition, there are numerous clubs, societies, and auditoriums that encourage student engagement and extracurricular activities, making NIT Rourkela a vibrant and holistic learning environment.
our college is having a vast campus of 1200 acres , and 8 hostels (SD,GDB,DBA.MSS,SSB,KMS,KMS annexe,CVR) . out of this last 3 are girls hostel and SSB is married hall. rest are boys hostel. There is a central pure veg mess also where onion garlic are also not allowed
The infrastructure of National Institute of Technology Rourkela is so beautiful as other NITs. We have all the world class facilities available in the campus all the infrastructure has some story of success
