Yes, B.Tech in CSBS (Computer Science and Business Systems) at SRM Chennai is a very good course, and it is quite similar to CSE in many ways — especially in core programming, data structures, AI, ML, and computer systems.
CSBS is developed by TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) along with AICTE, so it is designed to give students strong programming skills plus knowledge of business and systems thinking.
Now, let’s clear your doubt simply:
Is CSBS equal to CSE?
Not exactly equal, but very close. Both will teach you core subjects like programming, algorithms, DBMS, OS, etc.
But CSBS includes extra subjects related to business, management, and analytics. So it is more industry-oriented.
If you are planning to go into software development, business analytics, product management, or data science, then CSBS is a smart choice.
Will you get the same opportunities as a CSE student?
Yes, in most cases, companies treat CSBS and CSE equally during placements — especially for software and IT jobs.
TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, Capgemini, and many startups hire both.
Only a few core computer science research roles or product-based companies may prefer pure CSE, but if your coding skills are good, they won’t reject you based on the branch.
So, don’t worry. You made a safe and smart choice. Just focus on building good skills, doing internships, and coding practice. That matters more than the exact branch name.
SRM also has good placement support, so if you work well, you’ll get great opportunities.

Hello,
Depending on the campus and particular program, you may a decent probability of being accepted into SRM University with a rank of 4000 in SRMJEEE phase 3, maybe in computer Science engineering or other well like the disciplines. Despite the intense competition, if you are flexible with the campus and your rank falls within arrange, you still have a good chance of getting into CSE.
