Assam Engineering College Admission
Assam Engineering College offers Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering and Industrial & Production Engineering. AEC also offers MCA and M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering. Admission to B.Tech programme is offered on the basis of Assam Common Entrance Examination known as Assam CEE conducted by Assam Science & Technology University (ASTU) whereas, for admission to MCA, aspirants have to appear and qualify Joint MCA Entrance Exam (JMEE) conducted by Assam Science & Technology University (ASTU). M.Tech admission is offered on the basis of departmental entrance examination conducted by the college. The details of the AEC admission procedure is given below:
B.Tech
- Candidates have to apply and appear for Assam Common Entrance Examination known as Assam CEE conducted by Assam Science & Technology University (ASTU).
- Candidates have to qualify the Assam CEE in order to be a part of the further stages of the admission process and the names of the shortlisted candidates will appear in the merit list.
- For lateral entry, candidates have to appear in Assam Joint Lateral Entrance Examination (JLEE).
- Aspiring candidates qualifying the entrance examination have to participate in the Assam CEE counselling and they have to report to the counselling venue and seats will be allotted to them on the basis of merit and the choices opted by them and they also have to get their documents verified and pay the course fee.
- Final selection of the engineering aspirant will be done on the merit of Assam CEE, participation in the counselling process, seat allotment, document verification and fee payment.
M.Tech
- Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria for admission to the M.Tech course have to apply online on the website of the college and have to appear and qualify departmental entrance examination conducted by the college.
- Further, candidates who qualify the entrance exam will further move to the last stage of the admission process that is document verification and fee payment.
- The final selection of the students is done on the basis of marks secured in the entrance examination, institute level document verification and fee payment.
MCA
- Candidates aspiring to take admission to the MCA course offered by Assam Engineering College have to apply and appear for Joint MCA Entrance Exam (JMEE) conducted by Assam Science & Technology University (ASTU).
- Candidates have to qualify the entrance exam, and such candidates shall be a part of the counselling process and hence they will be shortlisted accordingly.
- Shortlisted candidates have to reports to the counselling venue and participate in the JMEE counselling process for seat allotment, document verification and fee payment.
- Final admission to the course will be based on the marks secured in JMEE, participation in the JMEE counselling procedure, seat allotment document verification and fee payment.

Academics
The academic curriculum at Assam Engineering College is solid, especially for students preparing for GATE, as it closely follows the exam syllabus. However, it hasn’t been updated to align with current industry needs. There’s limited exposure to emerging technologies, modern tools, and industry-relevant skills, which affects students’ preparedness for the job market beyond competitive exams.
College Infra
Assam Engineering College, established in 1955, had commendable infrastructure for its time. However, lack of consistent upgrades has led to outdated facilities, causing it to lag significantly in present-day infrastructure standards.
Campus Life
Campus life at AEC isn't great—it's not a closed campus, overrun by monkeys, lacks recreational spaces, has only one canteen, and there's no bicycle culture, making daily life dull and inconvenient.
Placements
Placement at AEC is decent, with many companies visiting. However, apart from a few PSUs, the presence of top-tier core or tech companies is limited, affecting opportunities for high-quality placements.
Value For Money
AEC offers excellent ROI, with total expenses around ₹5–6 lakhs for 4 years including hostel. Quality education at such an affordable cost makes it a great value-for-money option.

The academic environment at Assam Engineering College is well-structured and academically rigorous. The college offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programs, with experienced faculty members who are supportive and approachable. Most professors have advanced degrees, and many are involved in research activities. The syllabus is updated according to the latest AICTE norms, and regular internal assessments, assignments, and lab work keep students engaged. Departments like Electrical, Mechanical, and Computer Science are particularly strong, offering well-organized lab sessions and project-based learning. Seminars, workshops, and webinars are also frequently conducted to enhance learning beyond the classroom.
College Infra
AEC boasts a sprawling green campus located in Jalukbari, Guwahati. The infrastructure is decent for a government college. Classrooms are spacious and equipped with projectors in most departments. Laboratories are functional, though some need modernization. The library is well-stocked with textbooks, reference materials, and digital access to journals. The college has separate boys’ and girls’ hostels with basic facilities, though maintenance can be improved. Sports facilities include a football ground, basketball court. Wi-Fi is available in academic blocks but may be patchy in hostels. Overall, the infrastructure supports academic activities well, with room for further development.

Academics
I am currently studying Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering at Assam Engineering College in Fourth semester. The quality of teaching is good as most of the faculty members are highly qualified. Yes my college makes me job ready as they provide placement at the last semester of my college.
College Infra
My college infrastructure is a little old as my college is 70 years old. It was established in the year 1955 but it contains all important laboratory experiments and all the campus area is well maintained. We have wifi and smartboard in most of the classes and most of the books are available in the college library.
Campus Life
The overall campus life is good as it contains a lot of greenery to refresh mood and has bus stops , viewpoints, lakes, and a huge auditorium. Our campus also has a canteen, a small market to buy little important things. Students can engage into various activities and clubs . Our campus also contains many grounds to play our sports whichever we like.
Placements
The overall placement is good in Assam Engineering College. There are a lot of recruiters who come to recruit at an average salary of 6 lakhs per annum and sometimes is goes more than that. The highest placement package last year was 18 lakhs per annum from Chemical Engineering branch.
Value For Money
The college offers a good return of investment . The cost per year is very less compared to other engineering colleges. The admission cost is 19000 per year and the examination fees was 6000 for two semester last year. If you opt for hostel, your overall cost becomes too less as hostels offer mess food at a monthly cost of 2600 which varies from month to month
