The program is designed to develop competency at the interface of agriculture sciences and biotechnology, just in time to enter what is likely to be one of the fastest-growing areas of biotechnology related to agriculture. Admission into the program is determined through the candidates' performance in the 10+2 examination with PCM/PCB subjects.

Candidates can join the B.Tech in biotechnology course after completing a polytechnic diploma of engineering in biotechnology. Through two examinations, lateral entry entrance exam and other is a general engineering entrance exam.
After completing biotechnology, students will get admission directly into the second year of engineering. The lateral entry examination is a state-level examination. According to the rank, students will be able to choose the institute from their state at the time of counseling. In most of the engineering colleges, there is a reserved seat for lateral entry. But in IITs , there is no lateral entry seat.
