Yes, its true that lateral entry in 2nd year of b.tech  is possible in College Of Engineering ,Pune.
But the candidate must have completed Diploma in Engineering at different polytechnic institutes in the state of Maharashtra.
So if you fulfil the criteria then you are eligible fir admission else not.

• But in case if you are asking about coep i.e college of engineering, pune which is an autonomous engineering institute affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University in Pune then yes you can get admission in coep through jee mains as it provides admission in btech through JEE mains. The candidates are selected on the basis of JEE Main cut-off for admission into btech programmes offered by college of engineering pune.

Admission to the colleges like COEPune ,VJTI on the basis of state Engineering exam MH CET you have to appear in Maharashtra state examination COE Pune ,VJTI.COE Pune is affiliated to Savita Bai phule university is very good college.

G.H.Raisoni college and Bharti vidyapeeth both take admission for b.tech by rank scored in jee mains or mhtcet . Therefore if you want to take admission in different college you need to give entrance examination again and pass it .However if you are hoping to get admission directly into 2nd year in a different College then it's not quite possible as there are fixed number of seats in colleges.

Yes, there was a JEE quota and to get admission in COEP your Jee mains percentile had to be very good,minimum is 90+ percentile was required.BUT, After implementation of MHTCET total number of seats in COEP are reserved MHTCET. apart from other eligibility criteria and entrance exam score you need to be an Maharashtra domicile candidate or you need to full fill the criteria of candidature (A to E ) by  Department of technical education of Maharashtra. if you fall in any of the criteria you may surely apply . there is also some seat reservation for NRI candidates . you may follow the below link for candidature criteria by Maharashtra state government.

College of Engineering, Pune doesn't give admission on the basis of Jee Main score. Admission to B.Tech courses are considered on the basis of merit list as per the performance of the candidates inMHT-CET examination. So in order to get admission in COEP, one have to appear for MHT CET.
