It is difficult to compare different departments of different colleges as compared to comparing same department of different colleges.

Well the evident difference is in between the tags of the College. If you see, IIT tag is superior but if you compare the newer IITs to NIT WARANGAL, I think NIT WARANGAL will prevail.

Your gate score isn't enough to secure seats in IIT Madras.You need at least 700 for IIT Madras.You can apply for newly IITs such as IIT dhanbad,IIT Mandi etc..To know which colleges you may get visit below mention link:

Though the cutoff changes every year depending on many factors but according to previous years cutoff trends your chances are decent to get admission into a good college. The previous years cutoff (general) of some of the colleges where you might be eligible are listed below:

• IIT Bombay- 510
• IIT Roorkee- 53.54
• IIT Guwahati- 642
• NIT Calicut- closing score- 650
• NIT Rourkela- closing score- 615
• NIT Silchar- closing score- 506
• NIT Patna- 536
• NIT Durgapur- closing score- 521
• NIT Agartala- closing score- 495

IIT Mandi is better than many but not all NITS, hence it depends which NIT you are comparing it too. If we go by NIRF rankings NIT- Trichy, NIT-Rourkela and NIT -warangal have better rankings than IIT-Mandi.

However, in general IIT- Mandi has a good trackrecord of student placement and LPA packages offered. Students have recieved offers from Amazon, Goldman Sachs, L&T  and ISRO. The average salary offered was 27 lakhs. You can read about it from this document available on their website:

While NIT-trichy and NIT-Rourkela have a lot of recruiter on board with them and their students do bag good packages, NIT - Warangal loses out on the placement record and average salary offered despite a higher NIRF ranking. Hi Sukrit. May be my opinion will sound different to you, but to be completely honest with you, you should choose IIT Roorkee Metallurgy as Electrical or Mechanical are very common branches now a days with high competition, whereas metallurgy is less popular and you can easily get a job.

Its your choice finally, all the best !!

No in open category you will not get any seats in NITs .

IIT mandi is still no ready to start a new course... They are not ready to plan a new course .So , at this moment there are no chances ..
