Have a question related to MIT Chennai ?

Dear student,

Both MIT and Caltech are top-tier for physics, but they offer different environments:

Caltech is smaller and highly focused on physics. It has a tight-knit community, low student-to-faculty ratio (3:1), and almost all students get involved in hands-on research early—especially through programs like SURF . It’s especially strong in theoretical physics , astrophysics , and space science , and it’s closely tied to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab . If you want close mentorship and a deep dive into physics from the start, Caltech is ideal.

MIT is much bigger and offers more variety in physics subfields and interdisciplinary research—like combining physics with engineering , CS , or energy . It has major research centers like the MIT Lincoln Lab and Media Lab , and students can also take Harvard courses. It’s great if you want flexibility, broader options, and a vibrant campus life with tons of clubs and activities.

In short :
Choose Caltech for intense, focused physics in a smaller, more personal setting.
Choose MIT for broader opportunities, more interdisciplinary paths, and a larger, more dynamic environment.

i have been offered btech in dsai at thapar and btech in cs at mit manipal(main branch)

Thapar University's BTech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI):

- Pros:

- Specialized program in emerging fields

- Strong industry connections

- Good placement record

- Cons:

- Might be a relatively new program

MIT Manipal's BTech in Computer Science (CS):

- Pros:

- Established program with strong reputation

- Broader scope in computer science

- Good placement record

- Cons:

- Might be a larger batch size

Consider factors like:

- Curriculum in the program: Meets what you are interested in pursuing and your career aims?

- Faculty expertise: Are they experienced in their domains?

- Are there any chances for students to participate in internships and placements?

- Campus life: Which campus culture fits you better?

Hello,

The eligible score for MIT usually depends on the programme and the exam you are taking.

For example, for undergraduate admission through SAT, MIT does not have a fixed cut-off score but generally looks for very high scores (around 1500+ out of 1600).

For graduate admissions like MS or PhD, eligibility depends more on your academic marks, GRE scores, and other factors.

Hope it helps !
