I've lived in Manipal all my life, so college at MIT was quite an obvious choice for my parents. Given that i had studied in a school run by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, I was eligible for a Scholarship for Academy of General Education Students, or SAGES, as it it popularly known. I had a good enough rank to get into Computer Science, the most coveted branch in MIT, but I was more inclined to take Mechanical Engineering. Being a girl, there was a lot of dispute in my family as to whether or not I should pursue such a male dominated stream. After much consultation with friends, family and college authorities, I finally agreed to take Electronics and Communication(ECE), the next best option (or so I was told) after Computer Science(CSE). I was strongly against taking CSE as I just could not picture myself spending most of my productive years in front of a computer screen. The prospect of ECE was quite scary too. I had this block in my head about transistors (because I never understood them in 12th), and I figured ECE was built on transistors , hence my fear. But that is where I was wrong. In our first year of college, we have one subject each from all major branches and Basic Electronics was one of them. We had a brilliant teacher for the subject and he genuinely converted me. I was much more confident about going into the branch and although the third semester is quite challenging, it wasn't hopeless. As the semesters passed by, I got into the flow of things and even found an area I like, Embedded Systems. Our college requires us to make mini projects in atleast one subject each semester from the 3rd to the 6th semesters. I found my interest through one of these projects. Although the projects can be a pain if it's in an area you dislike, they are a means of figuring out what you're good at and what you should steer clear of! Coming to the extra curriculars and campus life. MIT has a host of different clubs that make racecars, launch satellites and even teach underprivileged children. If you feel like engineering is not your cup of tea (which is quite frankly true for half of all engineering students), there's a student business incubator on campus that lets you explore you're entrepreneurial side. The college takes student journalism very seriously too. I know of people who've gotten journalism scholarships to prestigious American Universities for their work in the college media bodies. Talking about placements. Majority of the Computer Science students get placed, and placed well. Most of the ECE students get placed too, but unfortunately, most of the recruiters are IT companies. Only a small fraction get placed in core ECE companies. So if you are someone like me who does not want to end up doing an IT job, you will have no slack time in ECE. Take up projects on your own or work under a professor or one of the aforementioned clubs. Keep track of advancements in your field of interest, and you should do just fine.

I found life here very pleasant and the lush green atmosphere provides fresh environment for learning. Apart from academics, co curriculars are also laid emphasis on.The institute has good connect with nearby institutes like NIT-K which provides everyone a platform vto showcase their talent. Time and again, such competitions are organized .

The college life is great. We make friends and they are for lifelong. We get to know and mix with each other. We actually develop a bond that is unforgettable and very strong. Coming to the infrastructure of the college, painted .well some of the blocks are in very good condition and newly painted while others painted. The hostels are connected with different roads and one tunnel type structure called the 'temple run' which is very helpful in reducing time .The hostel rooms are one of the best i have seen that are in very good condition and quite spacious too. Now talking about the faculties that are are very renowned and have a great knowledge at least some of them do have. About the college placements about which i dont know much but seeing the past records it is fine . Meaning exposure is good that is all the established companies atleast come to here . Summing it up all i can say college life that also in mit is such life with much enjoyments

MIT Manipal should definitely be on the list of someone who desires to pursue engineering as an undergraduate course. Not only does it have a great alumni network across the globe, but also world class infrastructure and a myriad of opportunities for the all-round development of students. The course structure of each branch is well designed and aims to impart knowledge sufficient to face the employment challenges in the real world. The college has good placements statistics.Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics departments have decent and experienced faculty but the branches such as Computer Science, Information Technology and Computers and Communication require better teaching staff. This might be a catch but a little self-study can help fix this problem. All the professors in the college are quite amiable and are always available for any clarifications required by the students. There are technical student organisations that conduct events and promote activities related to the curriculum and beyond. There are also student projects such as Formula Manipal( design racing cars),Parikshit(satellite project) and many more. Besides these, workshops and competitions headed by people from industries such as Microsoft, Amazon etc often take place in the college. The cultural development goes hand-in-hand with the academic growth in the college as the literary, music and dance and the dramatics club offer platforms for students to showcase their talent. The staff of the college put their best foot forward to make the learning experience at MIT wonderful. It is upon the student to persevere and make the best use of the multitude of facilities that this college has to offer.

College who has alumni like SATYA NADELLA CEO, Microsoft need not require any review , but still i am writing for others benefit- Air-conditioned lecture halls fitted with good audiovisual aids give the right ambiance for the teacher and the taught. Apart from these, the students have unlimited access to campus facilities such as redoubtable Health Sciences Library, IT services, sports and the newly built indoor complex MARENA, and Kasturba Hospital. A lot of Industries ti-up, workshop ,event like APTICON , international conference, guest lecture by noble laureate etc are excellent step towards enhancement to corporate exposure. MANIPAL UNIVERSITY is not only academia based institution but also focus is on sports, events, fests, international exposure and overall development. Good thing is that they force us to prepare research papers which allow us to learn new, they encourage us to conduct primary research and get it published, plus it is also mandatory to intern during summer holidays so it is the student's responsibility to learn by himself/herself to apply what is being taught.
