Academics
I am currently pursuing Chemical Engineering, a field that combines principles of chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering to solve real-world industrial problems. I chose this course because of my interest in understanding large-scale chemical processes and their applications in industries such as energy, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing. It offers diverse career opportunities and strong potential for innovation.
The quality of teaching at my college is quite good. Most faculty members are knowledgeable, experienced, and supportive. They focus not only on theoretical concepts but also encourage practical understanding through lab work, assignments, and discussions. Many professors are approachable and willing to help students beyond classroom hours, which enhances the overall learning experience.
The curriculum is fairly well-structured and is periodically updated to include recent developments in the field. It covers core subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and reaction engineering, along with some exposure to modern topics. However, like most engineering programs, there is still some scope to incorporate more industry-oriented tools and emerging technologies.
Overall, the course provides a strong foundation and helps in developing analytical and problem-solving skills. While additional self-learning and internships are important, the curriculum does contribute significantly toward making students job-ready.
College Infra
I am currently pursuing Chemical Engineering at Delhi Technological University (DTU), and my experience with the college infrastructure and facilities has been highly satisfactory.
DTU provides all the necessary infrastructure, facilities, and equipment required for both academic excellence and overall development. The classrooms are spacious, well-ventilated, and equipped with modern teaching aids such as projectors and audio systems, which make lectures more interactive and engaging. The Chemical Engineering laboratories are well-equipped with essential instruments and machinery that help students gain practical knowledge alongside theoretical concepts. These labs are regularly used and are properly maintained, ensuring a smooth learning experience.
The university library is another strong point, offering a vast collection of textbooks, reference materials, research papers, and digital resources. It provides a quiet and comfortable environment for studying. Additionally, DTU has excellent sports facilities, including grounds and courts for various indoor and outdoor games, encouraging students to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
The hostel facilities are also quite good. The living spaces are clean, well-maintained, and provide a comfortable environment for students. Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure hygiene across the परिसर. The food served in the mess is generally hygienic, with decent variety and quality, catering to the needs of students.
Overall, DTU ensures that its facilities are well-maintained and effectively utilized, creating a supportive and enriching environment for students.
Campus Life
The campus of Delhi Technological University (DTU) is one of its strongest highlights. Spread over a large area of around 160+ acres, it is spacious, green, and well-maintained, creating a very pleasant environment for students. The infrastructure is modern, with well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, a large central library, sports complexes, hostels, and various student facilities that support both academics and extracurricular growth (). One of the best features of the campus is the availability of diverse facilities in one place, along with a vibrant student life.
Students can engage in a wide range of activities beyond academics. The college hosts technical fests, cultural events, hackathons, workshops, and various society activities, which help in overall personality development and networking. Sports facilities are also excellent, with grounds and courts for multiple games, encouraging students to stay active. These opportunities make campus life dynamic and engaging.
In terms of drawbacks, the campus location in Rohini is slightly on the outskirts of Delhi, which can make connectivity to some parts of the city a bit time-consuming. Also, while the campus itself is very good, some facilities like mess variety or certain hostels can still be improved based on student feedback.
The students at DTU are generally competitive, talented, and diverse, coming from different parts of the country. The peer group is strong, which creates a healthy academic environment. Faculty members are knowledgeable and supportive, and the support staff is helpful in maintaining campus operations.
The campus is considered safe, with 24/7 security, CCTV surveillance, and controlled entry systems in place. Emergency facilities such as a health center and medical services are also available, ensuring student well-being . Overall, DTU offers a safe, resourceful, and vibrant campus environment with only minor areas for improvement.
Placements
The quality of placements at my college, Delhi Technological University (DTU), has been consistently strong over the years. The university attracts a wide range of reputed companies from various sectors including engineering, consulting, IT, and core industries, providing students with diverse career opportunities.
A significant percentage of students get placed every year, especially in branches like Computer Engineering, IT, and other circuit branches where the placement rate is very high, often above 85–90%. For core branches like Chemical Engineering, the placement percentage is slightly lower but still decent, with many students securing roles in both core companies and non-core sectors such as analytics, consulting, and IT.
The highest salary package offered usually goes to students from Computer Engineering or IT branches, sometimes exceeding ₹1 crore per annum in international offers, while domestic packages can go above ₹50 lakh per annum. For Chemical Engineering and similar branches, the packages are comparatively moderate but still respectable.
The average salary offered across the university generally ranges between ₹10–15 lakh per annum, while for Chemical Engineering it is typically around ₹6–9 lakh per annum.
The placement process is fairly structured and organized. The Training and Placement Cell is supportive and actively helps students with training sessions, resume building, and interview preparation. Overall, the process is smooth and pleasant for most students who are well-prepared.
Value For Money
The cost of my course, B.Tech in Chemical Engineering at Delhi Technological University (DTU), is moderate compared to many other top engineering colleges. The total tuition fee for the entire 4-year course is around ₹7.4–11 lakh, which comes to approximately ₹2.5–3 lakh per year depending on the academic year and additional charges. () If hostel and mess expenses are included, the overall cost increases, but it is still considered reasonable for a reputed government institution.
In my opinion, the college offers good value for money. DTU provides strong infrastructure, experienced faculty, and good placement opportunities, which justify the fees. Being a government university, the cost is significantly lower than many private engineering colleges offering similar or even lesser opportunities. Additionally, scholarships and financial assistance schemes are available for eligible students, which further reduce the financial burden.
The return on investment (ROI) is quite satisfactory. With decent average placement packages and exposure to both technical and non-technical career paths, students are able to recover their investment over time. Apart from placements, the overall development, industry exposure, and networking opportunities also add significant value.
Overall, I feel that the fees are justified considering the quality of education, campus facilities, and career opportunities provided by DTU. It strikes a good balance between affordability and quality, making it a worthwhile investment for students pursuing engineering.
