Have a question related to IIEST Shibpur ?

I have got 500129 JEE rank in 2025. Can I get admission in BTech CSE in IIEST as West Bengal is my home quota.

Based on the JEE Main 2024 cutoff data for IIEST Shibpur, securing a B.Tech CSE seat with a CRL rank of 500129, even with the West Bengal home state quota, appears to be highly improbable .

Looking at the previous year's closing ranks for the general category under the home state quota, the cutoff for B.Tech CSE at IIEST Shibpur was significantly lower than your rank. For example, in the final rounds of JoSAA counselling in 2024, the closing rank for general home state candidates for CSE was around 17609 . While cutoffs can vary slightly each year, a difference of this magnitude makes admission very difficult.

While having the home state quota provides some advantage by reserving 50% of the seats for candidates from West Bengal, the competition for popular branches like CSE at a prestigious institute like IIEST Shibpur remains very high. The number of CSE seats is limited, and many candidates with much better ranks would also be vying for them under the home state quota.

Therefore, it is advisable to be realistic about your chances for B.Tech CSE at IIEST Shibpur with your current rank. You should definitely explore other engineering colleges that might be a better fit for your rank, considering both state government and private institutions in West Bengal and other states. Participating actively in the JoSAA and CSAB counselling processes and keeping an open mind about other branches could lead you to a good engineering college.

I got 1.6 lakh rank in jee mains 2025 and sc rank is 7400.My hs is West Bengal. Can I get mechanical engineering in iiest shibpur or any other good college?

    Hello,

Based on your SC category rank of 7,400 in JEE Main 2025, it might be difficult to get Mechanical Engineering at IIEST Shibpur . Last year, the closing rank for SC candidates from other states in Mechanical Engineering was around 6,706.

However, you can still consider other good colleges where your rank may be sufficient. Institutes like NIT Agartala, NIT Meghalaya, or IIITs in newer locations often have higher closing ranks for SC category students. It's a good idea to check the previous year's cutoffs for these colleges to see where you might have a chance.

Also, keep an eye on the counselling rounds, as sometimes seats become available in later rounds.

You can use our JEE Main College Predictor tool to predict which colleges you can get based on your score.

Best of luck with your admissions!

With 76.31 percentile (SC, Female, West Bengal) in JEE Main 2025 , your SC category rank is likely above 35,000 .

    Chance in Central Govt Colleges:

    • IIEST Shibpur : Low chance for CSE/IT; possible in Mining or Civil.

    • NIT Durgapur (Home State) : Tough for top branches; Civil or lower branches may be possible.

    • Newer IIITs/GFTIs : Some chances in lower branches depending on cutoff trends.

    What to Do:

    • Register for JoSAA counselling.

    • Fill as many choices as possible (include low-demand branches).

    • Keep checking official cutoffs.
