IIEST Shibpur is conducting the 3rd International Conference ICERTSD from Sep 11 to 12, 2025.
JEE Main 2025 counselling session will begin on June 3, 2025.
Contains all necessary equipment. But some equipment are little bit old. Classrooms also good. Hostels need to be improved. Hostels contains own mess and indore sports facilities. And our college contains two common grounds for football and cricket.
Teachers are highly qualified. Very good teaching. Curriculum is little bit old. Curriculum need to be improved for present needs. Some improvements in the curriculum makes us job ready and for competitive exams.
Placement for core departments need to be improved. For non core departments our college provides good placements. Almost all software companies offers placements every year. Microsoft offers good package every year. Core companies like TATA steel, L&T also offers placements.
I am satisfied with the money that I pay.
Lot of greenery in college campus.
Overall good.
Iiest shibpur is one of the oldest college therefore its infrastructure lacks behind from those of new colleges. Even though its developing since then and its facilities are upto the marks. Proper equipments in the labs, good internet connection, classrooms are well managed also the campus is cleened every few months. The biggest advantage for the students is the library which includes a huge collection of the books and its also very well managed. Living spaces mostly depend on the students.
I am studying civil engineering because civil engineering sector has lots of opportunities in the government sector and private sector too. The professors are all well qualified and experienced and their way of teaching is really good. The curriculum is not that well updated, its old a little bit and I think they should work on it. Yes,the study can make you job ready.
Quality of placements are average since many students usually get very low package. The average salary was around 7lpa. Many students get placed out of the campus because of it but Its good enough as Sime companies visit the college.
I am a ST student so it I there is no tution fees for us and it cost around 85k per year including hostel fees. I think its worth it. The quality of education and the experience we get here is unmatched to any other places.
The most amazing part is the campus life. The best is the greenry in the campus. The weather is preety good except in summer. Students can engage in football, table tennis, swimming, cricket, dancing, singing, badminton etc. Staff is really supportive in the times of need. Also the area is safe I have not heard any such cases.
On the very first day I felt really awkward and thought this wasn't the place that I dreamt of. But as the day passed, I started enjoying here. College life is all about friends and the way you spend time there. Overall I think I am in the right place.
All facilities regarding sports like cricket ground, football ground, swimming pool, badminton court, Volleyball court basketball court etc are available . Classroom contains smart facilities fully equipped with projectors. There are various equipments in the laboratory which is very very costly. Hostels contains Wifi, the food quality is good as compared to other NITs.
I am a 3rd year student from the Department of Metallurgy and Materials engineering. In college life mostly you have to learn by practicals instead of notes. So here also practicals are preferred so that you can learn and feel in easier way. There are various committees fir placements which guide students for placement.
Placement scenario is not very bad as many of the people think. It varies department wise like for the Information Technology batch placement is around 90%. The average salary is also varied department wise.
There are various Scholarships available in the College which you can easily get if you are eligible by filling the forms..
If you loves the nature and greenery environment, then this campus is for you. There are various places to sit where you can talk with your Friends. The campus is located at the bank of Hooghly river. So the weather is max. time cool.
There are various enough things in the College to explore.
The college has a very good infrastructure. Most of the old buildings are already renovated. The college library is a good place to study and is well-maintained. The classrooms are hygienic and are air-conditioned.
I am studying B.Tech in Electrical Engineering since the department is one of the best among other and is the second old one, established in 1912. The faculty members are mostly Ph.D holders and have a really good knowledge of the subjects.
The placements at IIEST are really good. Many top companies visit the college for campus hiring including TCS, Microsoft, Texas etc. Considering 2019's placements, around 70% electrical department students got placed.
The fees structure is quite affordable as is lower as compared to other nits and iits. There is a 100% fee waiver for sc and st candidates.
The campus is so beautiful with lots of greenery. There are three lakes, each of them adding beauty to the college. The college has a hospital, swimming pool, badminton court, gymnasium, school. The hostels aren't good enough but they have security guards and hence safety at the campus is highly maintained.
Overall My college is the one of best colleges among other Indian institutes.
IIEST has infrastructure a beautiful campus with greenery spreaded everywhere like an heaven, with all facilities and equipments eg. I Hall , CCD, Central Library, Amul Shop, Netaji Bhawan, The Oval & Lords etc. Campus has 17 hostals and Halls, WiFi and smart boards, ACs, projectors in classrooms and digital central library. They all are used and well-maintained. Delicious food is prepared for students in hostals with keep all precautions, food is be absolutly hygienic. The living spaces is clean.
I am currently enrolled in Mining Engineering Course because IIESTS Mining is absolutely worth to join it to see Placements records in Mining. IIEST, ISM, IIT Kgp & IIT BHU are real neck and neck competitors of Mining in India.Teachers are be always friendly with student and teaching quality is great.Yes,curriculum is updated with all recent developments in the feild of MIning Engineering eg. INITIUM.Recently I got 1st Rank in IIT BHU MINFEST 2020.Now,I am ready for Job as my profile is updated.
Placements quality of IIEST is good.I'm sharing data of 2019 (%student placed) -Mining Engineering(81.48%),IT(75%),CST(72.00%),Mechanical(68.57%),Electrical(63.24%),ETC(61.90%),Civil(53.85%),MET(53.33%), AE(44.44%).Highest salary package offered of 39.12 LPA from IT in Microsoft.Average salary was offered of 6.5 LPA.Yes,placement process was pleasent and easy for me.Some students got PPO from Top companies.IIEST is supportive to the students for placement process, teachers are be always friendly.
As IIEST is central Institute so there are some fees waivers-100% Tuition Fees for ST/SC/PH students, full Tuition Fee is waived for GEN/OBC whose family income is <1LPA, 2/3rd fees waived for GEN/OBC whose family income is between 1-5LPA.For GEN/OBC students whose income is >5LPA Fee is 67500/-Tuition Fee & 26400/- Hostel Fee per semester.I feel that I'm is getting money's worth because IIEST is extremely good to see it history of good placements records, extremely good academics, infrastructure.
I am describing you some points about IIEST campus life-Excellent Performance and Rich History(it is empowering nation since 1856,2nd oldest engineering college in India after IIT Roorkee having 16 departments and 4000 students are instructed every year),Green Campus with Awesome waterbodies,Wonderful Canteens,Game&Sports,Swimming pool&gymnasium, festivals as REBECA.Society of interest such as ROBODARSHAN etc.Teachers&staff are friendly.Location is near to Kolkata,so safe and amazing urban life.
IIEST gets funding from Central Government as Old IITs(Madras,Bombay,Delhi,Kanpur,Guwahati,Roorkee,Kgp) and other NIts gets 40% lesser from IIEST. IIT KGp,ISM,IIEST,IIT BHU are neck and neck competitors of Mining Engineering. According to NIRF 2020 IIEST secured 6th Place in B.Arch and 21st Rank among all Engineering Colleges in India. IIEST Shibpur is also selected in 10 colleges among IITs & IISc for collaboration with other 10 colleges of UK in UKCERI project. So, really you should join IIEST.
My college provides all the necessary facilities regarding our studies. All the required equipments are there in our laboratories. The class rooms are also well maintained, and well designed. The corridor spaces are also remains clean maximum time.
I m obtaining the degree of bachelor of technology on metallurgy and material science engineering. All the facilities are very helpful and motivates us always. We are having a well organised routine to follow.where there is we are having theory classes as well as laboratory practicals. Class tests are taken regularly, that is the best part for preparing for exams .We are also provided regular class assignment.
The quality of placement is really very well, almost 85% of the students are placed with a good salary package. The placement process is very student friendly, and also easy. And the college is too supportive in the process of placement and in other works.
Yes this college is having a student friendly policy about semester fees.I need to pay 26k per semester. And it is really value for money.i feel it is not being wasted anyhow.this type of infrastructure is worthy for this ammount.
The college campus is really amazing, full of green trees. The streets are well maintained and cleaned regularly. It is situated on the lap of river Ganga. The location of the college is Howrah, Shibpur,West Bengal.Besides the teaching faculties the non-teaching staffs are also very helpful. The capmus is too much safe for everyone. They are having all the security measures required in college. In case of any health emergency or any other emergencies college authorities take quick action accordingly.
College infrastructure is pretty poor, specially the boys hostels. I wonder there will come a time when the hostels will fall upon us. The hostels are not really worth living in, very unhygienic with dogs littering all around the hostels.
I am studying Mechanical Engineering because I have an interest on the subject. However, our curriculum is not updated according to the present requirements of the industry. Many of the softwares are not taught in college and we are asked to learn it from somewhere else.
Placements are pretty decent with CST, IT, ETC, MIN getting around 80% to 100% placement. However, The core departments like Mechanical, Electrical have around 70% to 75% placements. Civil has even less, around 60%. Metallurgy and Aerospace varies from year to year. This year the highest salary was offered by Microsoft of 36 lpa.
For a person without any quota, it costs around 1.8 lakhs per year. Considering the infrastructure and technological developments of the college, I feel it is not a great value for money. Nevertheless, the placements are decent.
IIEST, Shibpur boasts of its large alumni base and rich history. It is the second oldest college of engineering in our country. It's a lush green campus that will make anyone love the campus. But along with all this, there are a lot of loopholes there in the college. The college lacks modern amenities a bit. It lacks the modern classroom facilities. I'm not saying, that IIEST, Shibpur doesn't have modern amenities but still, it's in limited quantity. Living areas are quite spacious but not tidy.
There is not a single doubt when it comes to the academic section of the institute. This institute is basically for those students, who want to pursue research as a career option and also for learning enthusiasts. The institute has highly qualified professors and staff working day and night for the student's welfare. Along, with that IIEST, Shibpur also serves the nation by doing excessive and consistent research.
The placement scenario is average because most of the students prefer to choose higher studies or research lines. Most of the students from core departments successfully clear the GATE examination. So, most of the students are placed in the government sector rather than the private sector.
₹71,000(₹3,000-one time, refundable) is the institute fee and ₹29,500(₹1,000-one time, refundable) is the hostel fee. So, let me tell you something regarding the WiFi facility and food quality as well. Food quality is average it'll not going to satisfy your taste buds. WiFi offers speed of 200mbps or sometimes 1mbps too. You'll feel that you're not getting that much for which you're paying for, at last, it's not that worthy regarding the facility.
IIEST, Shibpur, is a renowned college with the NIRF rank 19. The professors are highly qualified. The campus is lush green. There is a large library also, the institute hall is the place where most of the workshops or events take place. Campus life is very good. Technical fests, as well as, departmental fests, also take place with this, there is the annual function. Basically, IIEST, Shibpur offers a balanced lifestyle with some sense of diversity.
At last, I'd like to say, that, IIEST, Shibpur, is one of the best NIT and research institute that will offer you a great lifestyle, great opportunity, great academics and last but not the least, it'll boost your personality and career as well. Since it has a large alumni base, so, you'll have a great chance to succeed in any form. That's all!!! Good Luck!!!
Being 163 years old, the institute is still under development of infrastructure. The lab facilities are average. however, I think the engineering departments have well furnished laboratories. The library is good. Hostels, department buildings and library has free wifi. I am not sure about boy's hostel but girls hostel are well furnished and regular hygiene is maintained.
I am pursuing M.Sc in Chemistry. The classes are regular in our department. Professors here are quite co-operative and supportive. They're always ready to help you with any trouble. As far as being job-ready is concerned, since M.Sc is not a professional course, students here are primarily told to work for clearance of NET and GATE and focus on their research career rather than jobs.
To my knowledge, placements are offered to the engineering students but chances for M.Sc students are almost negligible. If you've cleared JAM and want a job right after your masters and do not want to go for Ph.d then coming here would not be the right choice.
Academic fees is 19,500 per semester for OBC/GEN M.Sc students. And most probably 7000-8000 for SC/ST. Hostel and mess fees is 25,500 per semester. Considering the regularity of classes and labs, yes the money is worth. And mess food is sometimes good sometimes bad. But you've the right to complain in case of any issues with mess food.
College campus is a treat to the eyes for nature lover. However, some parts are not properly maintained and students often prefer not to go around those areas covered with thick bushes. Regarding the activities, students can enroll for gym, basketball, swimming, dance and music.
The classrooms are equipped with proper sound system so that students can hear the professors, even from the last benches. Rooms are spacious with proper ventilations. Laboratories are equipped with the latest equipments and have friendly lab assistants. Well-equipped library, modern basketball court, swimming pool and two large playgrounds. Though I am a day-scholar, my friends say that mess food is edible and the menu is ever changing. Also there are four on-campus canteens to fill our tummy.
Presently I am a second semester student in the department of Computer Science and Technology. The lack of access to computer during my childhood has urged me to take up this stream. All the professors are highly qualified, almost all of them have a PhD degree. Tutorial guides lab assistants are equally helpful. Our curriculum is regularly updated as required. Some professors use modern tools like Google classroom. Research projects are integral part of our college.
Placements have improved a lot in the recent times, with students getting both on-campus and off-campus offers. Placement statistics have not been completely updated due to ongoing corona crisis. However, the highest till date is 42 lpa from Microsoft. Most importantly, even during these difficult times our Director Sir has assured students not to worry and that on-campus internships and industry-collaborations are being carried out.
The tuition fees cost ₹62,500 per semester. However there are concessions per the rules of MHRD. Yes, when it comes to money's worth, there is none better than an institution of national importance.
With an area of 123 acres, the beauty and greenery of our campus never fails to amaze us. Three lakes, meditation spot, building with Gothic design and many more. Everyone is supportive here. There are many clubs where we can hone our skills. Entrepreneurship Development Cell is doing a fabulous job as well. Located in well-connected area, the students have easy access to shopping malls, restaurants, coaching centers, etc. Our campus is absolutely safe with tight security. There is a hospital.
A small suggestion. I have seen many students making unnecessary complaints about their college. They have to understand it is a college campus and not a five star hotel. It's high time they come out of their honeymoon period.
Based on the JEE Main 2024 cutoff data for IIEST Shibpur, securing a B.Tech CSE seat with a CRL rank of 500129, even with the West Bengal home state quota, appears to be highly improbable .
Looking at the previous year's closing ranks for the general category under the home state quota, the cutoff for B.Tech CSE at IIEST Shibpur was significantly lower than your rank. For example, in the final rounds of JoSAA counselling in 2024, the closing rank for general home state candidates for CSE was around 17609 . While cutoffs can vary slightly each year, a difference of this magnitude makes admission very difficult.
While having the home state quota provides some advantage by reserving 50% of the seats for candidates from West Bengal, the competition for popular branches like CSE at a prestigious institute like IIEST Shibpur remains very high. The number of CSE seats is limited, and many candidates with much better ranks would also be vying for them under the home state quota.
Therefore, it is advisable to be realistic about your chances for B.Tech CSE at IIEST Shibpur with your current rank. You should definitely explore other engineering colleges that might be a better fit for your rank, considering both state government and private institutions in West Bengal and other states. Participating actively in the JoSAA and CSAB counselling processes and keeping an open mind about other branches could lead you to a good engineering college.
Hello,
Based on your SC category rank of 7,400 in JEE Main 2025, it might be difficult to get Mechanical Engineering at IIEST Shibpur . Last year, the closing rank for SC candidates from other states in Mechanical Engineering was around 6,706.
However, you can still consider other good colleges where your rank may be sufficient. Institutes like NIT Agartala, NIT Meghalaya, or IIITs in newer locations often have higher closing ranks for SC category students. It's a good idea to check the previous year's cutoffs for these colleges to see where you might have a chance.
Also, keep an eye on the counselling rounds, as sometimes seats become available in later rounds.
You can use our JEE Main College Predictor tool to predict which colleges you can get based on your score.
Best of luck with your admissions!
With 76.31 percentile (SC, Female, West Bengal) in JEE Main 2025 , your SC category rank is likely above 35,000 .
IIEST Shibpur : Low chance for CSE/IT; possible in Mining or Civil.
