Hello,
In 2020 a candidate belonging to general category with AIR 220 in NEET UG secured admission to BS(Research) in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Considering the previous year cut off you need to secure AIR in between 200-250. To secure such rank you need to score minimum 670-690 marks in NEET. The admission in spot round depends on the rank and the availability of the seat. If you do not have the required rank you will not get admission even if you fulfill the eligibility criteria pertaining to the admission. Each year the cut off changes based on the total number of candidates applied for admission, difficulty level of examination, highest rank, total number of seats available etc.

Hi,
It is not essential to join IISc, IISER, ISI to pursue research in the field of Mathematics, be it or any other. You can obviously go for research by pursuing Doctorate degree in top universities like Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia or any other. There is no restriction as such.
So, you can certainly choose these top universities for pursuing research in your concerned subjects.
You can check for PhD/Research in Mathematics Universities from the following page: https://university.careers360.com/colleges/list-of-phd-in-mathematics-universities-in-india

IIST Thiruvananthapuram and IISc. Bangalore are the two top institutes of India for space research. In order to get admission in these institutes through JEE advanced you need a very good score because their cutoff are very high.
For aerospace engineering in IIST the cut off for general category in JEE advance 2020 was 29.80 % of total marks and in 2019 it was 34.14% .
For aerospace engineering in IISc the cut off in JEE advance 2020 for general category was under AIR 250 .
IISc is the most prestigious institution in India for the students who are interested in Basic Sciences and Research. Thus to be a part of premiere institution it will need a lot of efforts. Now its dependent on the course in which you take admission in.
For Integrated BS-MS:
For this course you need to qualify the JEE advanced or the KVPY exam in order to be a part of the institution. As you know JEE Advanced is a tough exam as well as KVPY is a moderate exam with a interview (which is quite tough).
For Integrated MSc-PhD:
For this course you have to crack IIT JAM or JEST in order to get admission in this course after your BSc. This also will be followed by an interview.
Thus the general answer is yeah! Its tough to get into IISC but if you are interested in the subject and you have clear concepts as well as creative. Then IISc is a place esepecially for you and you will get a chance there
