Hii,IIIT Gwalior ? You mean ABVIIITM, Gwalior ? If yes, then read on.
CSE and mechanical engineering are widely different. Better depend more on your gut feeling. Listen to your heart. If you know students from both disciplines, consult them. Weigh the pros and cons.
In ABVIIITM, CSE degree till a few days ago had a two pronged approach. After the first few semesters, depending on your CGPA, you will be diverted to MTech or MBA. It's a dual degree in ABVIIITM, I hope you know. And higher CGPA-wala students get into MTech, lower ranked people go into MBA. So you should be careful about maintaining your CGPA all along. And remember ABVIIITM in G is one of the best for CSE.
MNIT Jaipur offers the most no. of branches among all the NITs (most probably the same is true about the IIT in Bhubaneswar also. Interesting similarity!!). And as a college, it's not that much far behind as some people may think it to be. Mechanical as a branch is also not bad. If you consider placements, in a large no. of cases, CSE gives you money a little bit quickly, that's why there's so much hype around CSE. Mechanical, electrical or civil as carreer options give you the same, but a little bit slowly. But these are evergreen branches. If you are steady and if you learn your subject well, any one of these subjects can give you as much mone
You can get iiits but you will have to go with the newer ones like iiit Pune, iiit sonepat, iiit Jabalpur, iiit Kota, etc.
You can check out the cutoff of the JEE main in accordance with the iiits here

Good luck
Hello Sir
There are many many factors which will affect your son's decision:
1) Does he want to persue his career in CSE or not: If yes, then he should go for colleges like NIT srinagar CSE or CSE in some IIIT.
2)He is not sure about branch:Then i would suggest you to go for better college. Don't choose mining or metallurgy in colleges other than NIT trichy, NIT surathkal and NIT warangal.
IIITs are not that good because they are very new. most of them are still under construction. But if your son is too much into CSE, then only the branch matters.
Considering your Home State as Maharastra ;I am providing you some options you can go for :
1.Netaji Shubhas Institute of Technology :Instrumentation ,Biotechnology,Mechanical
2.DTU :Environmental ,Chemical,Biotechnology
3.ICT,Matunga :Food Technology
4.Vishwakarma Government Engineering ,Ahmedabad : CSE,Civil,Mechanical
5.YMCA ,faridabad :CSE
ALL THE BEST!!!!
As a third year B-tech student i have spent two years on campus and want to share my honest experience. Our college boasts a spacious and well maintained campus spread across around 30 acres. The main academic block are clean and fully functional with essential labs and new tech ,modern classrooms equipped with projectors and comfort seating there are also designated seminar halls and conference rooms on the ground floor of academic block. The academic block is mainly divided into 3 blocks, Block A, B and C including a very large and useful library in B block. Hostels are very close to academic block most of the hostel blocks consist of 9 floors each floor consists of 7 rooms with 6 three student rooms and 1 four student room. there is also single room hostels from second year but limited entries depending on CGPA of students. Hostel Mess is inside the hostel in ground and 1st floors. There is also a college canteen, Nescafe outlet (functioning up to 2 am ) and a stationary store inside campus. Whole campus including hostels is equipped with high speed WIFI up to a speed of 350mbps. The campus and hostels are maintained clean and tidy .Food is not the best and non native students find it difficult to maintain but there are other options plenty because mess fee is weekly and optional.
College infrastructure is overall good as it's just 23 acres but it is well maintained. All the required classes and labs are present in the academic block area. We have a large sports ground for football and cricket also.
College infrastructure is quite good there is lot of greenery in our college. Building are a bit old. Rooms are okayish i would say(enough for a person) college is small, it extends upto 30 acres. Overall it is not much bad
