Jorhat Engineering College (JEC), established in 1960, is one of the oldest and most reputed government engineering colleges in Assam. The college has a long legacy of technical education and continues to play an important role in shaping engineers in the Northeast. Infrastructure:The infrastructure is relatively old compared to newly built institutes, which is understandable given its long history. However, the campus is spacious and functional, providing a decent academic environment. Over the years, improvements have been made and most essential facilities such as laboratories, library, workshops and classrooms are available. The green campus, large playgrounds and peaceful surroundings make student life comfortable. Academics & Faculty:Faculty members are generally experienced, supportive and knowledgeable in their respective fields. Teaching is a mix of theoretical and practical learning, and workshops help students gain hands-on exposure. Being a government institution, academics are structured and disciplined. Campus Life:Campus life at JEC is enjoyable with technical and cultural activities, especially the annual fest “Phoenix.” Students get opportunities to participate in clubs, quizzes, sports and technical events, which contribute to overall personality development. The environment is friendly and promotes bonding among students. Placements & Opportunities:Placement opportunities are decent for a government college in the region. Companies from IT, core engineering and service sectors visit the campus, and students also prepare for higher studies, PSU exams and GATE alongside placements.
One of the biggest strengths of JEC is its faculty. Professors are well qualified, experienced and very cooperative with students. They are approachable and supportive both inside and outside the classroom, which helps in clearing doubts and building conceptual understanding. The teaching approach combines theory with practical exposure through workshops and labs.
Placement opportunities at Jorhat Engineering College are decent and mainly depend on a student’s academic performance, skills and consistency. Students who manage to stay within the top 10–15 of their branch usually have a higher probability of getting placed through campus recruitment. Companies from IT, core engineering and service sectors visit the college and offer opportunities to deserving candidates. Although the placement volume may not be comparable to top national institutes, sincere and hardworking students can secure good offers by maintaining strong fundamentals and improving technical skills. Internships, project work and participation in technical activities further enhance employability. Many students also simultaneously prepare for GATE, PSU examinations and higher studies, which reflects the diverse career goals present on campus. Overall, with proper dedication, skill development and academic focus, students can achieve satisfactory placement outcomes from JEC and build a strong foundation for their professional journey.
Fees is low compared to other private colleges so it wont hurt our parents pocket
Campus is small compared to nits , iits
The infrastucture of the college is not so good . The condition of the classroom not so good , in some rooms the quality of the desk and benches are poor , the windows are broken , the machines in the laboratory are not in good condition . The college also does not have extra separate building for each deparment.
The faculty members in the college are pretty good , most of them tries their best to teach us and solve our doubts . Most of the faculty member are very student friendly. The college have a pretty decent size library where almost all kind of books related to respective courses and there is a place to study in the libraray.
The placement in the college are quite good for a tier 2 college . Some big PSUs like OIL , NRL, IOC, PGCL takes part in the placement and recruites a number of students . The college authorities also helps the students in the placement and plays a major role in inviting the companies.
campus life is good but need improvements in many aspects The ponds are to be maintained properly and even the gardens are not maintained.. there are still some lack of civic sense including pan masala spitting like myself
The infrastructure of the college is not so good . There are no water in the toilet . The machines in the laboratory are not in working condition, they need to be repaired. The condition of the classrooms are not so good .
The academics in the college are pretty good though. The faculty members are highly qualified. They are student friendly and good at teaching. We can ask any doubts related to the course and they tries their best to clear our doubts.
The placements are not so good . Around 40-50% students does not get any placement and those who gets placement their avg package is around 4-5 lpa.But also some PSUs like OIL and NRL takes part in the placement.
Campus is big but cleanliness is a big issue regarding ponds, gardens etc; these are not maintained properly..also civic sense is also lacking even in smart engineering students as well which is quite shocking.
Decent infrastructure with each department has their own localised sections. Student friendly environment, ease to move around and locate classrooms. Spacious auditorium and library. Laboratories are slightly outdated. Top notch workshops. Slight improvement required in the bathroom hygeine.
I'm undergoing BTech in mechanical engineering to pursue courier in automobile manufacturing industries. Decent quality of teaching. Mixed combination of experienced and newly appointed professors. No, our curriculum doesn't make us job-ready in all aspects, surface level briefing and knowledge.
Placement quality alters slightly every year. Offers equal placement opportunities to students who are eligible to opt for them. Half of the students are placed. Twenty LPA was the highest package offered to a student from mechanical engineering. 4lpa average salary. Easy placement. Supportive college.
Cheaper compared to other colleges. Justifiable fees. Less than ten thousand rupees per year.
Mediocre experience.
The college provides all basic amenities , it is one of the best college of Assam it provides platform for students to excel on their field it gives enterpreneurial benefits , networking benefits and has best of the faculties of Assam
It has the best academics and all the faculties are well proficient .. the laboratories are well equipped new libary is being constructed with all facilities new hobby centre is being constructed with all facilities
Placement ratio is average , the placement ratio was good before 2020 but a big gradual change came after Covid 19 which caused a severe effect on the placement ratio in the year of 2021, 2022 , 2023 , 2024 , 2025
As a government-run institution, JEC has lower tuition fees compared to many private engineering colleges. This makes it financially accessible for students from middle-income and low-income families.
The campus is surrounded by greenery, giving it a calm and refreshing atmosphere. It's less polluted and less crowded compared to metro-city colleges, which makes it ideal for focused academic life along with great sport environment
My college had all the necessary infrastructure, facilities and equipment. Along with that, my college campus was very beautiful as it had amazing scenic beauty. The classrooms, libraries, sports centers and hostels were spacious, well-equipped and maintained. Also, the living spaces were clean and food was healthy and hygienic.
The course I pursued was BE in Civil Engineering because I was passionate to learn and implement the concepts of construction and development of infrastructure in our country. The quality of teaching was outstanding and experience-based. The curriculum was up-to-date and included all the recent developments in the field. The course made me job-ready as well.
The quality of placements at my college was exceptional as even after being a government college in a remote area of Assam, more than 70-80% of the students in our college used to get placed due to its reputation and huge alum base. The highest salary package used to cross an amount of 20 lacs for the CS branch and the average package was around 6-7 lacs. The placement process was very smooth and the college was supportive.
The college is best in terms of value for money as I got a great ROI from the college. I myself got placed in Amazon and I paid a fees of total 60 thousand in my B. Tech(15k per year).
The campus life was best and I learnt a lot there.
Made very good friends there
The facilities, infrastructure and equipment are not up to date. The laboratories have equipment’s but improvement is required. A good thing is that it has a very well equipped gym, and hostels have WiFi.
Quality of teaching is good, but can obviously be better. Curriculum may be updated and practical lessons and real life applications should be encouraged. Overall, quality of teaching is not bad, but can be improved.
Placement is actually very good. Better than expectations. During my graduation I saw companies like HUL, TCS, IOCL, ITC and more. For a state government college, placements are very good. Salary average was 7-8 Lpa
Facilities are there but need improvement and maintenance, electricity needed to be improved and wifi system need to be available for everyone, a strong network needed to be installed and labs are constructed newly.
Teaching quality is good, curriculum is mostly completed. The course is completed slowly but steadily, topics are taught by most teachers clearly and teachers and Approachable, frank enough to ask doubts
Placements scenarios are pretty good. Both govt and private companies come to the college for placements and for freshers salary is ok for private company and for government company the salary is great.
It's worth the money completely.
Campus life is great, support staff needed to be more co-operative with students.
The College is a great place for engineering and is one of the best colleges of northeast of India. Students get admission here after qualifying the Common Entrance Examination for Assam. And get their suitable branch according to their rank
Faculties are highly qualified and have a great expertise in their respective department. Academic record are of great standard. The college has a extraordinary legacy since 1960 and still is one of the best college in the northeast.
Decent to top companies visit every year to recruit the students from the college. Companies like Vedantu, Indian Oil Corporation, NRL, Oil and Natural Gases Corporation and various other tech and core companies along with PSUs visit here
The College is Highly value for money as the academic fee is less than other colleges of the northeast and provides good placement opportunities to the students and the training and placement cell is very active.
Great campus with senic beauty and eye pleasing greenery. The college is very clean and highly maintained. The college campus also has a lake inside the campus which is very relaxing and eye pleasing to look at.
THE COLLEGE IS BEST. It provides a good exposure and has various clubs where various skills are taught and students are relevant industry skills and get good industry exposure and ultimately get good placements.
Talking about the college infrastructure we can say that it is quite good considering that it is a government college.JEC have good infrastructure that are needed for the average development of the students.
Academics is really needed to be appreciated. Specially talking about the Department of Computer Science and Engineering we have only 6-7 Professors but the way they manage everything and their true dedication towards the students is really appreciable .
Talking about the placements from JEC has really improved over the years. Last year in 2022 Maximum students from Department of Computer Science and other branches also got placed in various companies as well as in PSU like OIL. The maximum package being 22-23 Lakhs from OIL
Hello Abhi,
Hope you are doing well.
On the basis of your rank obtained there seems less chances of yours to get CSE in JEC.The rank you obtained does not comes under the closing rank required to get CSE in JEC when compared with previous year closing rank. The previous year
