SPA Mysore Admission Process

The University of Mysore operates the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA Mysore), a renowned institution in the areas of architecture and urban planning. Admission to these programs at SPA Mysore is highly competitive to ensure that only the fittest candidates are selected. The institute has recognition by the Council of Architecture and thus has all standards in education.

For the prestigious Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) course, SPA Mysore admits students on the premise of merit. This entails a selection process that relies most evidently on the performance in the qualifying examination as well as the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (that is, NATA). The weightage for admission is equally divided between these two components:

Admissions will be according to the following scale:

  • Qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) - 50% weightage
  • NATA score - 50% weightage

Candidates are required to score a minimum of 40% in the NATA examination, according to existing NATA norms. This balanced approach ensures that students come from both a strong academic foundation and possess an aptitude for the profession.

Application Process

In SPA Mysore varies from program to program:

For B.Arch program

1. Qualify the 10+2 or equivalent examination with required subjects and minimum marks.
2. Register for and appear inNATA examination conducted by the Council of Architecture.
3. Apply for admission to SPA Mysore through the formal method (to be checked on the official website).
4. Submit copies of all required documents including academic certificates, NATA score card, and further-relevant certificates.
5. Prepare a merit list based on the combined score of qualifying examination (50%) and NATA score (50%).
6. Document verification & admission confirmation to selected candidates.

Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning

1. Verify eligibility criteria (usually a master's degree in a relevant field).
2. Apply through the official application process of SPA Mysore.
3. Take the entrance test conducted by the university
4. The shortlisted candidates will attend an interview.
5. Final selection based on performance in both the entrance test and interview.

For all other programs (M.Arch Urban Design, M.Tech Urban & Regional Planning, B.Plan):

1. Check program-specific eligibility criteria on the SPA Mysore website.
2. Application with all relevant documents is submitted.
3. Any other program-specific entrance tests or interviews are to be declared in case any are required.
4. Final selection through merit list preparation and an admission offer to selected candidates.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Arch: The Bachelor of Architecture program at SPA Mysore has a capacity of 60 students. The selection of candidates is based on the performance of the candidates in qualifying exams (10+2 or equivalent) and the NATA score. The competition for places is fierce as only a limited number of seats are available.

M.Arch Urban Design: Spa Mysore provides a two-year Master of Architecture in Urban Design with 20 admissions. As specific admissions are not made known in various ways, it probably means a B.Arch or equivalent qualification is an eligibility factor. Other items that could be part of an admission selection may include academic performance, portfolio, or an interview.

M.Tech Urban and Regional Planning: This is a post-graduate course which concentrates on urban and regional planning. The admission procedure isn't mentioned, but it usually requires a student to have an appropriate bachelors degree and then appears for an admissions test or interview.

B.Plan: There is a program at SPA Mysore leading to the Bachelor of Planning. Details regarding the admission procedure for such a program are silent, but it is most likely similar to that of B.Arch, and it could include an aptitude test and evaluation based on previous academic performance.

Ph.D Urban and Regional Planning: The admission for the doctoral program is conducted through an entrance test followed by an interview process at SPA Mysore. This program is suitable for candidates intending to pursue advanced research in urban and regional planning.
