The college has all necessary infrastructure and the rest are under construction or maintenance or upgradation and will be effective very soon. It has one of the biggest Library comprising of around 1.5 lakh books, journals, magazines and research papers in hardcopy and soft copy as well. All the sport and gymnasium is well maintained and the girls hostel constructed recently are great but the boys one need some renovations even a 10 storey boys hostel is under construction as well.
Ok with this topic but the fields for work and delve deep is vast and have specialised experts to guide as well.Teaching varies from professors to professors hence ranges from very poor to excellent ones, the best in the industry and hence overall average rating.
Decent placement but then also not upto the marks since the average package is much below many colleges of same standard and the percentage is low as students go for higher studies may be due to low packages or even not placed or have some keen interest in any topic to have future prospects.
Prices too high not at all budget friendly for the general middle class , it seems as if we are running the others and bearing their loads in addition to ours financially.
Great campus life in the bank of river ganges and connected to Calcutta, the City of Joy. Greenery all round with heritage buildings and rich bengali culture squares up the vintage feel for a bengali.
Just don't go after NIRF ranking it is a total scam, evaluate it personally on all the details provided in the NIRF pdf to have a good idea of the real scenario.
The college is old, so the hostels and classroom is not in its best shape and not very well maintained too. The lab machinery is old but atleast the lab is well maintained. The campus is well maintained and has a lot of greenery which promote good environment for education.
I study Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. The curriculum is outdated but the professors are good teachers. They help us grasp the basics and if we are serious with academics, it is more than sufficient to be job ready in our department.
The placements can be better if we see numbers but there is a high influx of core companies here and you true worth as an engineer in a core department can be tested with experience in this core companies CS placements are also amazing with high packages
It is having what a engineering students need.Hostels are in good condition with WiFi of average speed.decent for students interested in sports it's having two big ground.Students interested in research will love it.
I m a student of metallurgy and materials engineering.quality of teaching is good, professor are well qualified and helpful.syllabus is up to date with modern requirement.what will you study will definitely make you job ready.
Average being a metallurgist it is what you expect.some good companies do come to our campus every year with average package of 4lpa .other department's placement is good specially electrical engineering department
Since it is an institute of national importance , value for money need not to be said.you will be satisfied and never regret to spend your money .every penny spent will worth it.you will get loan and fee waiver.
Best part is it's Greenery campus.you can connect yourself to nature here i love it sitting on peace near pond we have 3.you gonna love it for sure .i had my best four year here.
Best for students who want to do research and will learn a lot here .
The Infrastructure college is my good. Though we do not have sufficient amount of hostels. yet the accommodation is good. The class buildings and classrooms are well maintained. So over all infrastructure is very good
Our college is the second most old college in India and has a rich heritage in terms of academics. But some times some teachers get hasty in finishing the syllabus rater "teaching" us. But I think that happens in every college I assume. Very few subjects follow stone age syllabus. All the departments are up to dated.
Being an NIT and a institute of National Importance various famous companies visits our campus for placement. We have good record of on campus/off campus placement record. The students get placed in Google/Microsoft like places. So overall placement is good.
Course Fee for General/OBC students(Income>500000/year): aprox 140000/per year (62500/per semester tuition and aprox 7500 fee per semester others) included. Course Fee for General/OBC students(500000>Income>100000): Same As above with a waiver of 2/3 in tuition fee. Course Fee for General/OBC/SC/ST students(Income<100000): Same as Above with a full remission in tuition fee.
Campus Life here, in one word, is outstanding. The campus is most green place in the whole state. The beautiful scenery here is just a feast to eyes. The seniors and teachers are very helpfull. So you wont regret ever with this campus life.
I have joined my college on 2019. The experience has been great. The campus is like a feast to eyes. And the teachers are helpful. Sometime regarding exams they give too much pressure. But regarding overall infrastructure it is good
Academics in some branches, they follow old syllabus. But most of the branches it is up to date. Almost all the teachers are eager to help the students. And the teaching is not bounded inside the for walls of classroom
Placement in my college is improving. putting that aside it is better than various colleges of India. The main companies are google, microsoft, tcs etc. And as for a government college it has a moderate placement record.
Our course fee for 1. General/OBC(family income more than 500000) students is aprox. 140000/year(125000 is tuition fee). 2. For General/OBC student(family income more than 100000 but less than 500000) they gate 2/3 remission in tuition fee. 3. For General/OBC student(family income less than 100000)/SC/ST they get full tuition fee waiver.
Campus life is too good. It is the college with most no of trees in west bengal. Seniors are very helpful and caring towards the juniors. There are various games and big fields to keep us engaged in games
The college has well built infrastructure, beautiful area visuals and necessary facilities. The classroom usually has normal blackboards, white boards with projector screen facilities. All are well maintained and regularly checked. It has awesome laboratory facilities with world class equipment; some extraordinary machines, The library has lots of books with digital library support. Sports centers. Hostel has facility like wifi, canteen, but all of them are not well maintained.
I'm a studying metallurgy and materials engineering . The quality of teaching is good as we have some world renowned professors. Yes, curriculum is regularly updated and it includes all recent research topics. Yes it can be said that it makes us job-ready but we definitely have to work ourselves.
The placements are quite good here. Many major companies like, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Cisco, ZS etc., comes here. Almost 70-80% of all students on an average was placed. The highest salary i think is 50 lakhs for a CSE student but I'm not confirmed it can be further higher The average salary offered is 6-7lpa. The placement process is through superset platform. Its average and we need to be alert anyways for the offers. yes, to an extent college was supportive.
The actual course fees is about 63000/sem. But there are several criteria to this and many fee wavers schemes are there which can give full or partial waiver. yes the college is worth of the money paid as you get good infrastructure, professor support and placement opportunity.
The college campus is very beautiful. It has several lakes, full of greenery, sitting areas, parks, swimming pools. The worst thing is after 7pm no food shop was opened but since a year there are shops which opens till midnight inside the Campus. The students can engage in drama, dance, singing, and many more club activities.
College Infrastructure is good. Whole campus is WiFi enabled. Good roads connecting every building. There are buildings from pre-independence period which looks great. The laboratories are well maintained, you'll get site visita under the guidance of best professors. Hostel food is good, not like other colleges. You'll get to try different types of food from West Bengal and also from pan India. Cleanliness is well maintained in the whole campus.
The college has ranked 21 in NIRF 2020. And particularly in Architecture the college ranks 6th in the NIRF Architecture College ranking. Its one of the oldest colleges in India and is still at top most position in academics.
Placements are decent. With CST and IT students getting the highest number of placements with good packages. Number pf multinational companies come for placement to this college. Overall placement is decent. Average salary offered is around 4-5 LPA.
Its quite expensive to study in a College of National Importance, because of the Tuition fee. Students have to pay around 64,000 per semester as the tuition fee. Hostel, mess charges are not included in this. But of you have less family income or belong to reserved categories then there is some relaxation.
Campus life in this college is awesome. You will love it. The lakes in campus, the iconic clocktower inside the campus, the trees and the historic buildings helps in building great memories for the students. The view of iconic Howrah Bridge looks great.Ganga river ghats near the college is a great place to chill and spend time with friends. The Botanical Garden next to the campus provides fresh air to the surroundings also keeps the environment cool helping in tackling the heat of Kolkata.
It does not depend on where, which college you join. Just live those moment completely, enjoy your college life along with studies. You'll get to know several new things. Explore new places. If you join I.I.E.S.T.S you'll get a chance to explore the city of Kolkata which has a rich culture also you'll get to study under the guidance of some best professors.
Classrooms and laboratories are well equipped with necessary instruments. There are projectors, smart boards, speakers in all the classes. The hostel is quite good. The food is decent. The fee structure is not the best but reasonable. There are table tennis, washing machine, led tv, free wifi, carrom board, common room, study room in every hostel.
Faculties are the main plus point of this college. They are very helpful and motivational also. They never came to the class late and have a modern approach towards teaching. And their classes are very interactieve.
You can find the details of internship and placement record in iiests.ac.in. The internship and campusing start in 3rd year. You have to get over 8 cgpa to be eligible for top companies like Microsoft, Adobe, Uber, Saint Gobain, L & T, Coal India Ltd etc.
It is feasible. For SC/ST full tution fee is waved. For General and OBC : Income under 1lakh per annum full tuition fee is waved. Income 1-5 lakhs 50% TF is waved Above 5 lakh tution fee is 71000 per semester. And for admission and other lab fee is 8500 for all categories. And it also provides fund to the students to make their projects which can be out of the curriculum.
There are badminton, basketball courts. Table tennis room. Cricket ground, football ground. Labs are excellent, well maintained and equipped with latest technology. And there lot of clubs like music, dance, photography, coding, social work etc.
The atmosphere here is really pleasant. There are lot tress inside the 170acre campus. Beside the college there is botanical garden also.
IIEST Shibpur is the 2nd oldest engg college India estd.1856 with a lush green campus and the best of infrastructure even one can find many British styled building within the campus which are well furnished from inside but as the same from outside to enhance its beauty. Talking about the faculty is among the best in the country itself having a bulk of expirence and enthusiam. It has a great alumni network spreading all across the globe.
i am student of Mining Engineering. A very reputed dept at IIEST , has its base to be the oldest mining dept of the country with the best faculty. IIEST laid the foundation of mining engg at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad back in the 1927. The dept is always up do date in terms of curriculum and include all kinds of teaching aids from the lasted software to healthy in class teaching.
The placement of Mining Engg is really good compared to all other colleges in the country.PSUs like CIL used to visit the campus but as now all the PSUs intake via gate has left it mark but still companies like, TATA STELL,VEDANTA,JMS,GAINWELL,DMT,IT Companies, etc recruit majority of the mining engineers where Tata Stell offers the most handsome package around 14lpa. These companies also offer many internships and PPO if u do well. The average salary stands arounds 9lpa which is quite decent.
The fees differs on the basis of your annual income if your annual income is >5lpa u pay 70k per sem, ,5lpa its 33k per sem, and if less than 1 lpa its 5k per sem.
It is a lush green campus full of serenic beauty, with 3 lakes it adds up a majestic look in the campus especially with the clock tower. the campus spans over 120 acres and has all kind of sports facilities for seperate grounds for crickret and football, basketball court, volleyball court, swimming pool, and a grand gym, has 3 cantens and a Cafe Inn, CCD, Amul Parlor.the college has tons of clubs for evry activity u can perform in your wildest of dreams. The hostel life is simply mesmerising.
The seniors are extremely helpful and will stand by ur side always. U give them respect and get back even more. Having a decent cgpa is quite easy and simultaneouly u can be a great enthusiat of a club or a sport it all happens here in IIEST. all the vry best if u reah here its worth the jounrey and effort. cheerrs
We have well equipped laboratories but they aren't maintained timely in many departments. The libraries have all books required and are easy to access.Classrooms are in good condition. We have facilities of basketball,TT,gym, badminton, volleyball, chess, etc.Food is hygienic but few hostels aren't maintained.
I am studying Electrical Engineering. We have supportive and experienced professors. The curriculum is fine for exams like GATE but lacks training for developed technologies like MATLAB,etc. We can learn it on our own and seek professors' help but there is no separate facility for it.
The maximum placement goes to CST department or IT department each year. The college is taking various steps to introduce students with all the possible opportunities and also train them for placements.
I think there are various scholarships for economically weaker section offered by the government and the alumni of our college so it's affordable for all students.I still think that the fees can be used in a more efficient way. Mess fees can be a burden for some people.
Campus life is amazing here. The college is close to the city and has all required facilities near and inside the campus.Students engage in various technical, cultural and sports fest. The administration doesn't cooperate regarding the permission for some activities.
All I can say is that people should not expect 100% placements from our college but if you are hard-working and capable enough the opportunities won't seem less since now the college is taking various initiatives to keep the students updated and aware about all possible opportunities.
Yes, NIT Agartala does offer branch changes to first-year B.Tech students. The process for 2025-26 is likely to be similar to previous years, involving an online application portal, CGPA-based merit ranking, and seat availability considerations. While IIEST Shibpur may have closed its branch change option this year, NIT Agartala generally provides this opportunity.
Based on the JEE Main 2024 cutoff data for IIEST Shibpur, securing a B.Tech CSE seat with a CRL rank of 500129, even with the West Bengal home state quota, appears to be highly improbable .
Looking at the previous year's closing ranks for the general category under the home state quota, the cutoff for B.Tech CSE at IIEST Shibpur was significantly lower than your rank. For example, in the final rounds of JoSAA counselling in 2024, the closing rank for general home state candidates for CSE was around 17609 . While cutoffs can vary slightly each year, a difference of this magnitude makes admission very difficult.
While having the home state quota provides some advantage by reserving 50% of the seats for candidates from West Bengal, the competition for popular branches like CSE at a prestigious institute like IIEST Shibpur remains very high. The number of CSE seats is limited, and many candidates with much better ranks would also be vying for them under the home state quota.
Therefore, it is advisable to be realistic about your chances for B.Tech CSE at IIEST Shibpur with your current rank. You should definitely explore other engineering colleges that might be a better fit for your rank, considering both state government and private institutions in West Bengal and other states. Participating actively in the JoSAA and CSAB counselling processes and keeping an open mind about other branches could lead you to a good engineering college.
Hello,
Based on your SC category rank of 7,400 in JEE Main 2025, it might be difficult to get Mechanical Engineering at IIEST Shibpur . Last year, the closing rank for SC candidates from other states in Mechanical Engineering was around 6,706.
However, you can still consider other good colleges where your rank may be sufficient. Institutes like NIT Agartala, NIT Meghalaya, or IIITs in newer locations often have higher closing ranks for SC category students. It's a good idea to check the previous year's cutoffs for these colleges to see where you might have a chance.
Also, keep an eye on the counselling rounds, as sometimes seats become available in later rounds.
You can use our JEE Main College Predictor tool to predict which colleges you can get based on your score.
Best of luck with your admissions!
