Hi,
Short answer: Yes. If you are getting mining/Meta at NITK, or any B.Tech program for that matter, grab it with both hands.
Long answer:
I will infer from the wording of your question that you have no particular interest in mining/meta.
Practically speaking, after your entrance exams, you don't really know much about any branch. I cannot speak for Mining, but the Meta course at least is quite different compared to what you might expect. The only knowledge you have of this branch is (I assume) from the Metallurgy chapter which you had to study for your boards. The branch is quite different. Its full name is actually Metallurgy and Materials Sciences and focuses more on materials than metallurgy. For example, one of the courses which seems very interesting to me in the second year syllabus is the course on X-Ray Crystallography-essentially bouncing X-Rays of materials to figure out what they look like inside. Just try the branch. I'm sure you will like it.
If you don't like your branch, here's what you can do:
Mining especially has a low workload. Meta has an average number of hours per week-some sems have more and some less (for example, 3rd sem has 21 hours/week while 4th sem has 35 hrs/week). Since you are interested in some other branch, you can use this free time to pursue your interest in it by means of online courses or the like.
Also, NITK is a great college. You will get opportunities here which you will not get anywhere else. Placements for all branches are good-for example, one Meta student got a 25lpa package this year. You can get jobs in ISRO and DRDO as a meta student. If none of this sounds appealing, you can always go for an MBA after you graduate.
Hello dear!!!
Yes according the previous year cuttof in NIT nagpur you have a great chances of getting a seat over there. With a rank of 11767 chances of getting a seat in computer science branch may have a less probability but if hold long for many last round you may even get a CSE group sometimes.
Thank you

Hi aspirant,
The closing rank for ECE at VNIT, Nagpur for ST candidates was 6,829 for home state candidates and 879 for other state students. This year's cut-offs are also expected to be similar. Hence, you can get admission if you are a Maharashtra Domicile otherwise your chances are very low.
At 43324 category rank I think it is not possible to get any branch in NIT Nagpur under home state quota too. Had 43324 been the Common Rank List rank, then it was possible to get mining Engineering at NIT Nagpur.
Here's a link for your reference.

I see that ou want to get into VNIT NAGPUR in eee course.
As you say that you are from ews category , and as ews category is a subgroup of general category soyou will come under general category .
Previous year the closing rank for eee in vnit nagpur was around 10000 in 6th round for other state and around 13500 for home state in 6th round.
So , if you have rank less than the above mentioned rank you will get this branch.
Hope it helps.
Thank you.
hello,
i see that you want to take admission in vnit nagpur. You want to take cse or ece. So you must be having good marks in Jee mains. As you are obc category so rank can be a bit lower.
Seeing previous year ranking for vnit closing rank for ece was around 4600(obc-ncl) and for cse it was around 2700 (obc-ncl) both in hs category.
So you should be having below these ranks in order to get into vnit with preferred choice of subject.
Thank you.
