Being an NRI I thought it'll be hard. But it wasn't. College is all about connections and involvement in activities be it course related or extra curricular. I learnt a lot of new things. Lots of clubs to get put your passion on work. Events happen every week. People are good here but all that matters is mark. People study for that alone. But there are few people who believe on skills. Its that exposure that matters.

About CEG from a CEGian

Batch of 2018
The students: The students who get into CEG are very smart. Most of them have been toppers their entire student life before they get to this point. You will rub shoulders with students who are state toppers. The person standing behind you in the line at the canteen would have been interviewed by the press for topping the district. It's very, very intimidating at first. You watch the guys who can solve complicated puzzles in their heads and wonder if you would ever be that good. But people also start slacking off after getting into CEG: the brand name assures you a decent job, and hence you can get by on minimal grades for four years. A lot of very, very smart people end up this way. The clubs: There are a number of good clubs in CEG, on all sorts of topics. The Computer Society of Anna University, Student Quality Club, Rotaract, CEG Tech Forum, Hans, Robotics club .. the list could go on and on. I vividly remember attending a Student Quality Club event where computer science 4th years were sharing their experiences. This pretty much turned out to be the defining moment for me: they showed me the extent of things you could do in CEG, and the opportunities available to anyone who wanted to try out interesting stuff. I joined the Computer Society of Anna University (CSAU) and had a ton of fun. These clubs provide an informal atmosphere to interact with students from other branches and more senior students who know the ropes. The students in such clubs also tend to be very outgoing and fun. You learn a lot being in one of these and tend to get those social skills which are so important later on in life. 80% of what I learnt while at CEG is due to extra-curricular activities. The professors: There are some truly awesome professors in CEG, and a lot of very terrible professors. My favorite professor is Prof. Ranjani Parthasarathi (RP). She has more energy than half the students on campus. She has a genuine love for computer science which she does her best to pass onto her students. I know many students (including me) who were inspired to love the subject after attending her class. A note to current students: seek out the good professors and engage with them. Anybody can tell you who they are. Ignore the people who are teaching because they somehow landed this job and are clearly not interested in the subject. The campus: The campus is huge: you can literally spend hours just walking around the campus and still not have seen everything. Everyone falls in love with the red building, the trees and the shady paths all around campus. You could literally fit a number of the so-called engineering colleges that are springing up all over Tamil Nadu into the CEG campus. Finding a quiet place to read a book is very easy. There is a huge sports ground for the athletically inclined. Another advantage of the campus is that it is right in the middle of the city. Unlike the colleges which are hours away from anything else, it is relatively easy to go catch a movie or attend a quiz in between classes. And of course, you get access to all the awesome restaurants in Chennai. The culture: I've visited a lot of other colleges in Chennai, and save for IIT-M, I've not seen any college which was so dynamic as CEG. Being at CEG is kind of like being at a festival: there is always something fun going on somewhere that you can join. The list starts from technical clubs and goes all the way to purely cultural festivals like Techofes. And everyone is always looking to do something. If you are interested in something, finding like-minded, smart people would be very easy. There is a pretty good chance that there is already a club for that. Events take place around the year to showcase your skills. The infrastructure: Well, no university is perfect, and I have to talk about the bad things too. Internet connectivity was shockingly bad when I studied there. I hear it is a little better now, but still not what you would expect from a university of the caliber of CEG. The computer science labs are badly in need of expansion. The class size has increased rapidly, but the growth in infrastructure has not proceeded at the same scale. The web presence of CEG is minimal, at best, and completely non-existent at worst. The idea of using internet technologies to aid in classes has not yet taken hold. I've can't speak directly as to the state of infrastructure in other branches (ex: mechanical, civil and so on). The alumni: Compared to the alumni networks of IIT and BITS, there is no coherent network for CEG. While those networks are run professionally, with an elected CEO and board of directors to manage affairs, alumni networks in CEG are mostly used to organize reunions and reminisce about the good old days. While some efforts are being taken (Ex: CEGAM), it will be a while before they mature and we have a strong alumni network. In conclusion, CEG is one of the best places to pursue engineering in Tamil Nadu. Like any other government-run college, it has its own failings, but these are largely negated by the brilliant, energetic student population. If you are motivated and not afraid to reach out to other people, CEG can be a place where you can get an education and not merely a degree.

Being one of the oldest colleges in India, the aura of ceg takes you by your breath. The liberty and opportunity given to the students by the institution parts a phenomenal role in the overall learning that takes place. The sense of pride and responsibility of being a cegian helps us to thrive for knowledge. The college has a fairly good bunch of facilities and state of the art facilities to assist the students in their learning process. All sorts of life skills are provided with platforms to be expressed. The idea that ceg only concentrate on education is a myth. It has a good placement record, and very good alumniies. There may be instances where some of the facilities or facilities may appear below par, but these are isolated. The various clubs in the college provide ample opportunities for students to improve their managing skills. The symposia, both cultural and technical are of very good standards. The legacy of 200 had old institution gives you a sense of being part of something big, which in the long run will help you make yourselves big.

Batch of 2019 | BE Geoinformatics
Hi folks, I am Krithika doing my 2 nd year B.E.Geo Informatics in the well renowned college "CEG" where the four years of Engineering becomes a piece of cake. Unlike other colleges, in CEG we have plenty of rope to move around and have fun. CEG is a government college but the campus is beyond comparable with other private institutions. It covers an incomparable area of 90 ha. If you are going to opt for CEG, then raise your collars as it is one of the oldest engineering institutions in the country and also be proud that College of Engineering, Guindy has been ranked as the 48th best Engineering College of India in the Edu-Rand Rankings of 2015. When it comes to infrastructure, you can see the majestic "RED BUILDING" standing with it’s indomitable dignity. We have Knowledge Park called by the nickname KP, which gives a modernistic look to CEG. The buildings here are very older one but every erection is a superstructure. We have a plenty of place to wander around. The supreme one of CEG is the cultural. The carnival starts with "AGNI", an intra college fest. Followed by the witty "FRESHER'S DAY" subsequently we have the walloping "KURUSHEKTRA", Kurukshetra is the annual techno-management fest of CEG, Anna University. Kurukshetra was created to kindle the spark of creativity and innovation among the best brains in the country. The flagship event of CEG Tech Forum (CTF), the fest evolved as a platform to facilitate industry academia interaction, nurturing the ideas of its student community and lifting them from mere dreams to solutions for various societal problems. It is the first technical fest in India to have the patronage of UNESCO, the highest form of support granted by the organization for commendable activity. As of one the largest events of its kind, Kurukshetra serves as a stage to indulge curiosity, showcase excellence and experience the best the technological world has to offer. On the side "TECHOFES" approaches with it's own blast. Techofes is the annual inter college social and cultural festival of the College of Engineering, Guindy. It is usually held in mid-February. Techofes is held for four nights and three days and draws students from nearly a hundred colleges from all over the country. It was founded in 1948 and is south India's biggest cultural festival. Apart from merry element you have an wide opportunity to enhance your personal skills to make yourself fit for the enlarging competitive world, you have n number of clubs to upgrade your proficiency. Industrial visits, internships, corporate exposure and placements offer are ample. The campus has 16 hostel blocks. The hostels accommodate only undergraduate students and there is a separate hostel for NRIs and foreign nationals. The best part of CEG canteen is the only place where quality foods are provided at the cheapest rates. After getting into the CEG one will get to know that these are not only statements but are really the iner voice of mine. Thank You :-)

The college being one if the best in the state offers great placement opportunity and a good platform for learning for those who are curious enough. With a variety of clubs, sports team and cultures, this place opens up a whole new opportunity for those who are craving for extracurriculars. Faculties range from best to 'can-to-better', but if you are that intrigued by the subject, you will find a way out Hostel life experience is a whole new level once you get used to it. Since the campus is located in the centre of the city, you can get good food around if you are unsatisfied with the food within. Overall, Anna university gave me a cherishable experience for a lifetime.

It is one of the best colleges in South India. The college has good placement record and the faculties are also good. The library is open 24X7. However, the hostel is not well equipped and the food is not good. If a person is from north India he/she will face a problem with food . As the majority of the people do not speak Hindi hence there is language barrier also.

The college is a government engineering college so it has lowest fees comparing to private institutions do it is highly affordable to get a engineering degree. Some of the staff members are really good and dedicated to their job but some are not. The college infrastructure is not so excellent but it is improving now. It has a good library. Hostel food is not too good. Indusry exposure is quite good. The college has biv crowd. So as government college it did not having special classes and extra tests so this approach helped us to enjoy my college life also I learned the 75% of syllabus to the best of knowledge.

As I got admission in CEG, I am very happy. The college life is cool and we get a lot of free periods in a day. The infrastructure is okay. There are a lot of clubs in the college to encourage the student's talents. Cultural fests are also held every year. Tech fest named KURUKSHETRA is up to international level and is very famous. Library is also very good. Finally, I love studying in this college. We feel that our college infrastructure, classes are great. The professors of our college are very helpful and approachable. We students ourselves arrange an industrial visit once in a semester and this too seems a better and good. Hostels are not that much good but better. College is very good in terms of infrastructure. Teaching staff are excellent. The crowd is a mixed blend of different kinds of students from all over the country. There are a lot of clubs in the university and most of them are better when compared to with their counterparts of other best colleges.

Coming from the small town of Thiruporur, I initially had doubts about surviving in this huge institution. But all those fears evaporated when I met my friends and became close with them. I can say that CEG had welcomed me with open arms. The faculty were very good and I am lucky that I was part of a batch that had got very knowledgeable faculty for almost all the subjects. The most epic thing about CEG is the hostel life. I vividly remember all the late night shows after which I used to sneak in into the hostel. I focused a lot on extra-curricular activities and this helped me to learn various things other than studies. I thank CEG for that. In the placement season, there were very large number of companies looking to recruit students from CEG and I got placed in a very reputed MNC. I had made friends for a lifetime during my college life. Everything about CEG, amuses me and I write this with a heavy heart that I am no longer part of the great institution.

CEG - The best!!

Coming from Coimbatore, CEG amazed me in every way. In the first semester, I got to know people from other departments very well. In the first semester, the classes comprise of a mix of students from all departments. This is one of the best practices followed in CEG as it will help develop contacts with other departments vert well. In my case, the friends that I made in the first semester turned out to be friends for a lifetime. From the 2nd semester, we were introduced to department specific subjects. ECE is one of the toughest branches and I am grateful that I had been thought by faculty who were passionate towards their subject and had in-depth knowledge in it. As semesters passed by, the number of classes decreased gradually. CEG gives you a lot of free time and it is up to us to utilize it productively and make the most out of it. Personally, I used the library for reading a lot of books and I can proudly say that CEG has got one of the biggest libraries among colleges. We were taken on industrial visits regularly and not to mention the fun trips that the students ourselves organized. Coming to the hostel life, it is one of the most exciting things to experience in CEG. It can be especially useful during the exam times when students brainstorm a lot and try to grasp concepts. As the 7th semester came, everyone got busy with placements. Placement process is very competitive in CEG as we not only compete with our college students but students from MIT as well. Even then, the students got placed in good companies. I am grateful to have studied in CEG.

I was very naïve when I had joined CEG. I would credit CEG for imparting a lot of confidence in me. The college gives you everything. If you want to excel in academics, it gives you world-class faculty and libraries that you can get easily lost in. If you want to excel in sports, it gives you a plethora of options with professional trainers for each sport. If you are interested in doing CSR activities, projects you can join any of the innumerable clubs. If your inclination lies towards extra-curricular activities, you given options for that too with dance clubs, drama clubs and music clubs. A college with a rich history, I am fortunate to have spent four years in an institute that has produced many notable alumni. With the best minds in the state, the college will always be brimming with activity of some sort or the other. I could not think of a dull moment in my college. The college has various and diverse departments with a huge strength that it will take some timing before getting to know everyone’s faces. But this helped with to network and gain a lot of friends and contacts. The college also has a huge library with a wide array of books. An avid reader is sure bound to spend huge chunks of time in the library. I usually go to the library to get copies of the topper’s notes the day before the exam. There is also a computing centre with a high speed internet connection. The hostel life at CEG deserves special mention. There are virtually no limitations. I still remember sneaking past the sleeping warden after night show movies with my friends. Hostels in CEG need improvement but it doesn’t matter when you have got friends who you know will always be there for you no matter what. Even after joining work, the respect that you get when you say “I’m a CEGian” is commendable. And I am thankful to my college for everything it has provided me.

CEG - A perfect college in all aspects

Coming from the suburbs of Madurai, I was initially amazed by the sheer size of the college during the time of counselling. After getting a seat, I thought that I had made my parents proud by joining the premier educational institution in the state. Initially I joined as a hosteller but then moved out as I was unable to concentrate on my studies in the hostel. That is not saying that it is not possible to study in the hostel. It was just difficult for me to adjust. The first semester was very enlightening. I was awestruck by the knowledge of some of the faculty. I had learnt various important concepts which later provided as the platform for me to learn more advanced things. By the end of the first semester I had developed a good friends circle. The college was equipped with good labs with state of the art equipment. This made the students to practically try out the concepts that we had learnt in the theory sessions. One advantage of my college is the amount of freedom that students get. Nobody forces you to do anything. The second and third years moved so fast. The 7th semester is the all-important one as students started preparing for the placements. Many good companies came to our college for recruitment and I was fortunate to get placed in one of the premier electronic chip manufacturers in the world. As I write this review sitting at my office desk, it made me realize that what I am today is largely because of my college. To summarize, CEG is the right platform to propel your career towards greener pastures if you use the opportunities provided judiciously.

CEG is well located in front of the prestigious Indian institute of technology Madras & guindy national park.students can make use of IIT as well. College ambiance is really awesome with full of greenery everywhere.campus is so huge that even I haven't seen the whole campus in my 2 years of college life.monkeys & deers are a usual sight inside the campus. Every month some fest will be there be it tech or non tech. huge ground with two good basketball courts &one tennis court is there to keep you physically fit.two good canteens are there which can provide cheap but delicious food. faculty is good.the college can provide a good exposure.I would recommend this college for b tech at any time without any doubt but not for m tech as the core companies are not interested in m techno hostel is there for m tech. over all life at Chennai was a life time experience.

CEG from my perspective!

Batch of 2015 | BE Electronics and Communication Engineering
College of Engineering Guindy's Electronics and Communication department is one of the oldest in the country. For years now, it seems to attract most of the toppers of the higher secondary. The course syllabus is outdated and will need further enhancements. But, the college manages to help students lay down strong basics. Some of the teachers have an experience of more than 15 years. On the other hand, the labs also need upgrading. The equipment have to be replaced to help the students get an efficient hands on experience. The college has an ISL lab which was involved in the making of a micro-satellite ANUSAT. Some excellent students get a chance to work in the lab. Continuous tests, assignments and lab observations help a student's academic life to a huge extent. The college's staff sometimes find it equipped to handle with new subjects and technology trends. The student life in CEG is one of the best with the best cultural fests and innumerable technical symposiums. Students organised and market the fests almost in a professional way. Apart from this, the college has many clubs which hold activities all through the year. From classical arts to entrepreneurship to quizzing, everything has a club. So, if any student is not into academics, he can entertain himself with a wide array of extracurricular options. The college is famous for producing sports persons, musicians, actors etc. One of the best parts of being a CEGian is that you have a huge chunk of time and freedom in hand. If the student makes use of it judiciously, he/she is bound to make a mark. The college still manages to stand true to its excellent history.

Best of everything - CEG

The first thought that I got when I entered CEG was “How am I going to survive in this humongous campus?”. The campus was so large that it is easy to get lost in the initial days of joining there. The college which is one of the oldest technical institutions in the country will be bustling with activity always. I knew that I am joined by the creamy layer in the state with respect to intellectual capability. So this made people to be competitive in everything that they do. The initial days were a bit boring but once I got good friends, it turned out to be the most beautiful place one could ever get. I vividly remember how I had rushed to the 8.30 a.m. classes missing breakfast on most days. The never ending nights in the hostel marked by group studies, chit chats, surprise birthday celebrations all made me feel cherished. Being a hosteller certainly had its perks in CEG. It made us to network with a lot of people. It also enabled one to actively participate in the extra-curricular activities and symposiums. With the college located at the heart of the city, visiting places around Chennai was never a problem. We were taught by faculty who were very articulate in their method of teaching. Some of them made me to develop interest in their respective subjects. One good aspect about CEG was that it never forced people to do anything. It would provide us with a plethora of opportunities and it is up to us to utilize them or not. We were given utmost freedom to pursue our interests. During the final year, some of the most renowned and reputed companies came to our college to recruit students. I got into one such company and I’m thankful for all that CEG has given to me.

Batch of 2015 | BE Electronics and Communication Engineering
When I was in my 12th grade, my parents and teachers tapped my potential and with a little effort from my side, I got into College of Engineering, Guindy, one of the premier engineering colleges in the country. My four years at CEG, seemed the shortest as time literally flew and they turned out to be the most exciting years of my life. My time at Ceg was well rounded. I underwent a complete metamorphosis. It was marked by classes that were few and far between as years passed by, full-fledged symposiums where we rubbed shoulders with the exciting minds in the country, guest lectures and extracurricular activities. I was taught by the finest lecturers, top ranked honchos of Tamil Nadu. The beautiful campus located at the heart of the Chennai provided the icing on the cake. The brand name and tag of CEG spoke well for itself and remains a pride forever. You'd stand out literally anywhere you go starting from other college symposium to off campus placements. Placements in CEG were top notch and if you got the right attitude and skills, rest assured that you would go places. My experience in CEG would be incomplete without a mention of hostel life. I was very naïve when I joined college but I would credit hostel life for teaching me a lot of things other than academics. Like most of the premium institutions CEG gave the freedom of "not forcing to study ". So this kind of enforces the student to be self-dependent and self-motivated which would seriously reshape anyone's future. So finally recapping my life at CEG ,it goes by the saying "Do your part and everything will fall in place”. My 4 years of engineering at CEG were educative and fun filled in every sense of the word. I have acquired friends for a lifetime, gained articulate knowledge
