Hello,

NIT Durgapur has marginally bigger highest package and average package but IIEST has greater median package which is of greater value . Placement percentages are more or less same . IIEST just became an Indian institute under the central government in 2014 while NIT came under central goverment in early 2000s.

I hope that helps you to make a wiser decision. Rest, the success in any field depends upon your own quest to knowledge, hard work & networking skills.      All the best for your future endeavors.

Hello aspirant.  Both are very good college.  But according to recent ranking by nirf iiest shibpur ki ranked top 20 college of India. So you can choose it. But if you want alumni network which is more of old college then go for nit jamshedpur.

Hey,

Though the official cut-off marks of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur for this year hasn't released till now, we have to use previous year's cut-off details in this regard. You can also check it from the following websites:

https://www.careers360.com/university/indian-institute-of-engineering-science-and-technology-shibpur/cut-off

https://www.careers360.com/university/indian-institute-of-engineering-science-and-technology-shibpur

So after analysing the article provided in the previous link, I guess it becomes quite clear for you that if you want to get chance in the topmost departments like Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering, then you've to secure almost 15-20k rank in India in JEE MAIN 2020. But if you are happy with the bottom-listed departments of this college like Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Mining Engineering etc then 45-50k rank in JEE MAIN would be sufficient for you. So it's completely your choice.

You can also use Careers360 JEE MAIN college predictor tool in this regard:

Hope thess informations would be quite beneficial for you.

All the best !!!

Hello,

Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra and India Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur both are one of the best college in India. IIEST has been given the status of an "Institute of National Importance".  But every colleges have there own pros and cons.

If we consider in terms of placement, infrastructure then BIT Mesra will be better than IIEST. And we go for faculty and fees then IIEST will be good .

Good luck!!

hi,

see st Thomas college of engineering is a private college under maulana abul kalam ajad university of technology, kolkata. where IIEST shivpur is centralized institute and comes under government college. IIEST college is far more better than st thomas college or any other private colleges in west bengal. iiest shivpur comes under top two colleges in west bengal after jadavpur university, kolkata. college has excellent placement record , excellent Infrastructure , students teacher ratio.

hope it would help.

Dear Aspirant,

Considering you as a general Category students, your rank might be around 46k -36k based on your percentile. According to this rank you have no or very less chances of getting iiest shibpur. So it's better if you try for state councelling, you will get better college there also you might get Nits in some lower branches.

Also please use our college predictor tool to predict the colleges based on your rank:

Good luck!!

Dear aspirant,

Every year Wbjee exam is taken for admission to various colleges in West Bengal. In which only 5% seats  are for other state students and rest of the seats are for west bengal domiciled candidates and for getting in those colleges like Jadavpur University you are required to produce domiciled certificate of west bengal and caste certificate of west bengal. Now coming to your query IIEST Shibpur takes admission through Jee mains and not through Wbjee so for getting admission to IIEST you did not require domicile certificate of west bengal but you require caste certificate.

Hope this helps.

Hello, both colleges are good, government colleges and most importantly are highly ranked.
They are highly ranked in Nirf ranking.
In my opinion you should go for NIT Durgapur Cs branch as Cs/ It are top branches and  as Nit Durgapur is a Nit, the Nit tag will always help you.

Nits have great infrastructure and placements and Nit Durgapur is a top Nit.
Also, Cs is good then It branch. And as you have mentioned for preparation for GATE you will find good opportunity for studies in it

Check this link for details about Nit Durgapur

All the best.
Hope this will help you.

hi,

see cutoff score changes every year and it depends on certain factors like number of applicant, questions difficulty level, seat matrix. you did not mention how many year of gap you have, but if you have more than 2 years gap in academic , starting from 10th to upto graduation it would have problem during the placement time. also since you have below of 70% in 12th you are not eligible to appear in some of the companies recruitment process. however for this year wbjee or jee main score you have less chances in any tier 1 institute. so prepare hard and think before taking any more gap. times changes rapidly and you never know what is waiting in future. if possible also try to apply for other state colleges or other entrance test.

College Infrastructure

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology situated in Shibpur Having good infrastructure.Certainly lacks the facility & infrastructure of a top notch institute (refers to my dept.-archi), and heard a lot of complaints from my B.Tech friends about the placement department, which I presume is true to a large extent, although the new INI tag will be able to solve the problem, hopefully. But, students here get one hell of an experience of the hostel life, senior-junior relationship is something we learn to treasure and cherish.

Good college

College Infrastructure

Our college having great infrastructure with all the facilities are available. Library is very well maintained with all books and papers you need with space to study there as well. Hostels on the other hand really need serious maintainance. The food quality is very bad to average. Drinking water is not very good as well. There are no well made tables or chairs in hostels, you have to buy them on your own. For sports there are 2 big grounds where you can play cricket and football. There is separate court for basketball and one for badminton. Except these there isn't anything else in sports department.

It was pretty good experience.

College Infrastructure

Great Infrastructure but placements should be improved as there was no placement in 2020 for Applied Geology. I am pretty sure the engineering departments are very much good at infrastructure but the university authorities must pay attention t the science departments as well.
