Hi,
Congrats on your score. With this score, i think you could get IIT Madras easily.
I suggest you to check previous year's cutoffs to get a decent idea about it-> https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/gate-cutoff-for-nits
https://collegedunia.com/exams/gate/cutoff
Dear Reader,
I would suggest you to lock your seat as per your interest. As per my suggestion both the branches are good but petroleum is considered better in placement perspective. But again i will say both the branches are important ones. Also your rank is not bad so you just lock your seat and go for next round of counselling.
My suggestion would to also explore private colleges in order to get a good or your desired branch
Hello Om,
The below given details are based on the review taken by the passed out students from the respective colleges.
IIEST -
The overall placement scenario in IIEST Shibpur is improving day by day. The rich alumni base of IIEST (formerly BESU) and its hardworking placement cell are the major factors for this. The placement scenario is at its best for the CSE department and more than 80% of students get placed. Mass recruiters like Wipro, TCS, Cognizant and major IT companies like Microsoft, Adobe, etc, visit our campus for recruitment.
Jadavpur University -
Since Jadavpur University is ranked at no 7 at all India Engineering college ranking. It has 100% placement ratio. Many of the tech giants arrive here. Like microsoft, amazon TCS and many more. The lowest Salary was 8 LPA. Talking about internship one guy got internship at Google also.

Hello,
With this general as well as category rank in jee main , it is near to impossible to get any nit or iiest, shivpur whether you a home state student or not.
You should go for state governed institute or a good private college.
You can even go fir a drop and give it a chance.

Frankly speaking if we follow the last few years trend, then the answer is a clear no. And since the cutoffs will increase thisyear since there has been an increase in demand for IIESTs and NITs I don’t think it will be possible for you to take admission in either of these good colleges.
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology situated in Shibpur Having good infrastructure.Certainly lacks the facility & infrastructure of a top notch institute (refers to my dept.-archi), and heard a lot of complaints from my B.Tech friends about the placement department, which I presume is true to a large extent, although the new INI tag will be able to solve the problem, hopefully. But, students here get one hell of an experience of the hostel life, senior-junior relationship is something we learn to treasure and cherish.
Our college having great infrastructure with all the facilities are available. Library is very well maintained with all books and papers you need with space to study there as well. Hostels on the other hand really need serious maintainance. The food quality is very bad to average. Drinking water is not very good as well. There are no well made tables or chairs in hostels, you have to buy them on your own. For sports there are 2 big grounds where you can play cricket and football. There is separate court for basketball and one for badminton. Except these there isn't anything else in sports department.
Great Infrastructure but placements should be improved as there was no placement in 2020 for Applied Geology. I am pretty sure the engineering departments are very much good at infrastructure but the university authorities must pay attention t the science departments as well.
