With a rank of 170,000 in JEE Mains, it is unlikely to secure admission into top government colleges like NITs, IIITs, or GFIs, as their cutoffs are typically much lower. However, you may have a chance in some newer or lower-ranked institutions.

To get admission in M.Tech at IIIT Hyderabad through PGEE, there is no fixed cutoff, but based on previous trends:

For Computer Science, you should aim for at least 80% or above in the PGEE exam.

For other branches, a slightly lower score may be accepted, but higher is always better.

After the exam, shortlisted candidates are called for an interview, and final selection is based on both your PGEE score and interview performance.

Scoring well in both parts increases your chances of admission.

With a JEE Main rank under 2 lakh, you can still get admission to some government colleges for B.Tech in CS or IT. Here are some options for that:

NITs

* NIT Agartala

* NIT Puducherry

* NIT Mizoram

* NIT Sikkim

* NIT Arunachal Pradesh

IIITs

* IIIT Guwahati

* IIIT Kota

* IIIT Kalyani

* IIIT Una

Other GFTIs:

* Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Bhadohi

* NIFTEM, Thanjavur

Cutoffs vary each year, so check the latest JoSAA counselling data for accurate info.

With an EWS rank of 20,000, getting a seat in top IIITs is difficult. However, you may get a seat in newer or lower-tier IIITs through later rounds or spot rounds. Check previous year cutoffs and participate in JoSAA counselling for accurate chances.

Hello Aspirant,

IIIT Bangalore does not accept students into its B.Tech programs via JEE Main ranks, not even for candidates in the SC category. IIIT Bangalore offers only dual-degree (B.Tech + M.S.) programs through the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) UGEE or other channel (KVPY/SAT). The IIIT Bangalore postgraduate programs (like M.Tech) use GATE for Admissions.

If you are looking for JEE-based admissions, IIIT Bangalore is not a part of JoSAA/CSAB counseling as other IIITs (e.g.: IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Allahabad) are. So regrettably, a JEE Main rank of 714486 will not be applicable for admission to any program at IIIT Bangalore even in the SC category.

Hello Mahi,

While you may have a tough time getting a core tech branch in the top NITs/IIITs with a 32k OBC rank and 100k CRL, you would have some chances in establishing lower NITs/IIITs specifically with the home state (HS) quota + female reservation. Also, being from Chhattisgarh, you can narrow it down to specifically NIT Raipur, where girl candidates often get some relaxation in cutoff ranks.

You have a chance at branches like:

  1. Metallurgy, Biotechnology, or Mining at NIT Raipur
  2. Not CS branches in new IIITs (for example IIIT Una, IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Kalyani)

I would suggest you check the JoSAA cutoffs for the past few years for your specific category and home state. This will give you a better idea. Also, keep the options open for round 6 and spot rounds, where often the cutoffs get lowered.

With a JEE Main rank of 160,000 and being a general category candidate from Odisha, it's unlikely that you'll get Electrical Engineering (EE) at OUTR Bhubaneswar or Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at IIIT Bhubaneswar. These branches are generally competitive and prefer candidates with better ranks, especially for the general category.

Here's why:

OUTR Bhubaneswar: Electrical Engineering (EE) is a popular branch and typically attracts candidates with high ranks. Your rank is relatively lower, so securing a seat might be difficult.

Alternatives and Considerations:

Lower-Ranked Branches:

You might be able to secure a seat in a less competitive branch at OUTR Bhubaneswar or IIIT Bhubaneswar.

State Quota vs. All India Quota:

You have the benefit of being an Odisha state domicile, which can give you an advantage through the state quota. However, the all-India quota is still highly competitive, and your rank might not be enough for the top branches.

Counselling and JoSAA/CSAB:

Attend JoSAA/CSAB counselling and carefully choose your college and branch options based on your rank and the cutoff ranks of previous years.

Other Colleges:

Use JEE predictor tool and Explore other state engineering colleges or IITs (if your JEE Main score allows) that are less competitive for your desired branch.Consider other Engineering Colleges You can also explore other engineering colleges in Odisha or nearby states.

Important Note: The actual chances of getting your desired branch depend on the final cutoff ranks of OUTR and IIIT Bhubaneswar for the 2025 admissions. The cutoff ranks can fluctuate based on the number of applicants, the performance of students, and the seat availability.

HEY THERE!!

With your JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) of 76,950 and an OBC-NCL category rank of 23,853, here’s an overview of your options for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs:

**NITs**

Getting into the main branches such as Computer Science (CSE), Electronics (ECE), or Mechanical Engineering at most NITs will be challenging. Even newer NITs have these ranks under 20,000 for the OBC-NCL category. However, there's a possibility for branches with lower demand like Biotechnology, Metallurgy, Mining, Production, or Civil Engineering at some of the newer or North-East NITs. This is more likely if you have a home state quota in a less competitive state. For mid-tier and top NITs, the cutoffs for any branch are generally well below your rank, making it hard to secure a spot there.

**IIITs**

You have a chance in IIITs, mainly in less popular branches or at newer IIITs. High-demand areas like CSE or ECE usually have OBC-NCL ranks below 15,000–18,000. Despite this, seats might be available at newer IIITs for branches like IT, ECE, or various specializations, particularly during the later rounds of admission.

**GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes)**

You stand a reasonable chance at several GFTIs, especially for non-core or less sought-after branches. GFTIs usually have higher closing ranks for the OBC-NCL category, providing opportunities in institutes such as Assam University, Gurukula Kangri, and other state-funded colleges.

**Action Plan**

1. Apply Broadly: In the JoSAA counselling, fill out as many choices as possible including all branches and institutes (NITs, IIITs, GFTIs) to improve your opportunities.

2. State Counselling:If applicable, utilize state counselling to take advantage of lower cutoffs if you possess a state quota.

3. Remain Flexible:Stay open to various branches and locations. Depending on college policies, you may have the option to change branches after your first year.

Overall Summary:

Securing core branches at leading or mid-level NITs or IIITs is not likely, but there's a reasonable chance at newer NITs, IIITs, and several GFTIs, especially in non-core branches. Ensure you fill all possible options in JoSAA counselling to increase your chances of admission.

Hello Arjun,

with a JEE main general category rank of 38,860, securing admissions to electromics and communication engineering(ECE) in top NITs in south india is challenging. however you may have a chance in newer or less competitive IIITs such as IIIT SRIRANGAM, IIIT Kottayam, or IIITDM Kancheepuram, where ECE closing rank have extended beyond 35,000 in recent years. its advisable to participate in all JOSAA counselling rounds and consider spot rounds, as cutoffs can vary annually based on seat availability and applicant preferences.

HELLO,

This is irrelevant question dear how can we schedule or postpone your exam please provide right question.
