Congratulations on securing 580 marks in 10th and getting into IIIT! It’s absolutely okay to feel confused about which branch to select — it’s a big decision, and many students go through this phase.
Here are some tips to help you decide:
Understand your interests – Do you enjoy problem-solving and logic? You might like Computer Science. If you love math and design, consider Electronics or Data Science.
Explore each branch – You can research the syllabus and future career paths for branches like CSE (Computer Science), ECE (Electronics), IT (Information Technology), etc.
Talk to seniors and teachers – Try reaching out to current IIIT students on platforms like LinkedIn or Quora for real insights.
Think long-term – Choose a branch that aligns with your career goals or higher studies (like software development, government jobs, or research).
Don’t worry if you're still unsure. Many students discover their interests in the first year itself. Choose what excites you the most!
Hello Aspirant,
When evaluating NIT Jalandhar's B.Tech in CSE vs IIIT Gwalior's Integrated B.Tech + M.Tech in IT, both are built upon but cater to specific needs. NIT Jalandhar has a 4 year core Computer Science programme that offers the NIT brand value and flexibility seeing as the student has complete freedom to choose what to do in 4 years ie jobs vs higher studies vs another field.
On the other hand, IIIT Gwalior offers a 5 year integrated IT programme (similar to B.Tech + M.Tech) to students who want to make a long term commitment to tech and prefer to have a strong academic continuity and good placements. Although both institutions are similar in terms of their placement packages offered in the software domain, most probably students at NIT Jalandhar want to follow tech path while still keeping other options open and brand recognition and positive association, while students at IIIT Gwalior probably want the complete all in one tech journey.
Hello
It's completely normal to feel confused about choosing a branch after your second year at IIIT Basar many students go through the same phase. The best way to approach this is by reflecting on what genuinely interests you.
If you enjoy problem-solving, programming, or building tech solutions, branches like Computer Science (CSE), Artificial Intelligence (AI), or Data Science might be great fits. If you're more inclined toward hardware, networks, or electronics, consider the ECE program. Look into what each branch offers in terms of subjects, future job roles, and industry demand.
