School of Engineering, University of Mysore, Mysuru Admission Process

The School of Engineering under the University of Mysore has a reputation of high prestige, and has passed through long traditions. This makes it one of the oldest engineering colleges in Karnataka, offering undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programs in several branches. The admission process into the SOE UOM has been aptly planned to ensure that bright and deserving candidates gain entry into the various programs that it offers. The admissions into the SOE UOM are conducted almost in accordance with the academic calendar of the University of Mysore-general, starting from the months that precede the actual commencement of the academic year running from August-September.

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) emerges as the main basis for admissions at the undergraduate level; KCET is the mandatory examination for admission into their B.Tech courses. The eligibility criteria for entry into the B.Tech program include passing the 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. The selection process is, therefore, merit-based, guided by the instructions laid down by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). Updates regarding application dates, procedures, and counseling schedules concerning KCET for SOE UOM, are published online on the official website of the Karnataka Examination Authority for interested applicants.

Application Process

Application procedures may differ by program at SOE UOM.

For B.Tech programs:

  1. Register and appear for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET).
  2. The date of declaration of the KCET results will see eligible candidates going for centralized counseling conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).
  3. During counseling, candidates will select SOE UOM and their opted B.Tech course based on their KCET rank and when seats are available.
  4. Candidates allocated a seat must report to SOE UOM for document verification and the admitting process.

For MBA and MCA programs: Although specific details are not provided, the general process is expected to include the following:

  1. Taking the prescribed entrance examination (e.g., CAT/KMAT for MBA; KMAT/PGCET for MCA.)
  2. Either apply directly to SOE UOM or follow the centralized admission procedure according to the respective case.
  3. Attend further selection rounds which may include group discussions and personal interviews.

If selected, complete the admission formalities at SOE UOM.

The documents required at the time of admission more or less are:

  • KCET rank card (for B. Tech)
  • 10th and 12th standard marksheets and certificates
  • Entrance examination score card (for MBA/MCA)
  • Degree certificates and mark sheets (for postgraduate programs
  • Category certificates (if applicable)
  • Domicile certificates (if required)
  • Other relevant certificates, as specified by the institute or KEA.

Degree wise Admission Process

The five B.Tech programs offered by SOE UOM comprise Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Biomedical and Robotic Engineering, Civil Environmental Engineering, and Computer Science and Design. The KCET rank forms the basis for selection of candidates for admission into these programs. The selection process is merit-based following KEA norms. Candidates with a qualification of 10+2 standard are fine to apply for admission that has Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects.

The programme for the MBA at SOE UOM provides entry for a maximum of 180 students. The missing data, while suggesting a CAT or KMAT type of entrance exam and the possible shortlisting of candidates based on GD and PI following that, are indicative of a management-style entrance process for the diploma.

It is permitted for 60 entrants under the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) at SOE UOM; in general, MCA admission is held either state over national-level based on the entrance exam, which has not been specified. Therefore, based on the subject of qualification, candidates are encouraged to apply.
