The UPU Government Polytechnic Durg offers a male student hostel on campus with around 100 beds in total. Each room has been provided with basic facilities like a cot, table, chair, and almirah for each student. Some older wings of the hostel which have been maintained offer an affordable residential option with 24 hours running water and electricity at very low government rates.
On the other hand, female students get a separate, secure hostel facility that guarantees a safe residential environment on the campus. A well-being staff member keeps watch over the facility and it has the same basic amenities as the boys' hostel. Due to limited mess facilities, students mainly depend on outside tiffin services or local eateries.
The Central Library is undoubtedly one of the leading institutional resources, with a vast stock of around 30,000-40,000 volumes and over 7000 titles in different branches of engineering. A separate reading hall is also included, and through the library section of the institute, access to online resources and e-journals can be obtained. The place is open during normal office hours to help students in their research and studies.
There is a big playground on the campus which is ideal for the practice of outdoor sports such as Cricket and Football. Students take part in inter-college sports competitions and use the areas for their physical exercises everyday. Though the availability of indoor sports facilities might be limited, the huge grounds serve as the main zone for student recreation.
The UPU Government Polytechnic Durg houses Metallurgy, Civil, Mechanical, and Computer Science, related laboratories, which are equipped with the necessary facilities. These labs serve as a medium to impart practical training and experiments are carried out following the curriculum of CSVTU. Some of the equipment may be a bit old but the workshops still give a good fundamental of industrial tools and machinery.
There is a main auditorium and several seminar halls which are used to hold academic and industrial workshops, guest lectures, and the annual college events of the students. These venues are also the places where the cultural fests and convocations are held and they give the students a chance to professionally and artistically involve themselves in activities other than their studies.
The UPU Government Polytechnic Durg stresses overall development of the students through various cultural events, technical fests, and government-sponsored skills programmes. Students are motivated to participate in programmes that help develop their leadership and soft skills capability and such initiatives are mostly carried out in association with the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), of which the college is an institutional member.
UPU Durg boasts of an illustrious alumni pool, several of whom have joined renowned organisations like Bhilai Steel Plant (SAIL), NTPC, and DRDO. The Alumni Association plays a vital role in facilitating the connection of former and current students by providing mentorship and organising and assisting in campus placements through their industry networks.
On the UPU Government Polytechnic Durg campus, numerous student-run clubs, including technical societies and social service groups exist to nurture different interests. These clubs can be seen actively running the departmental magazines, organising technical workshops, and engaging the community in various programmes through the "Community Polytechnic" section that has been functioning since 1986.
The college also provides Training and Placement opportunities for all the students.
