Dear student,
The cutoff of jee mains has been released by nta, and for this year the cutoff score for general category students is around 90 percentile.
And you have secured a very good rank in jee mains 2020.
As you have not mentioned category but still if you  belong to general category then you have cleared cutoff score and you are eligible to get into nits, iiits, gftis and give jee advanced exam.
But talking about nit surathkal then your chances are difficult for cse , chemical engineering, etc.
If you belong to home state, then you can get mining engineering, metallurgical engineering and civil engineering.
For female candidate belonging to home state quota, civil engineering, mining engineering, metallurgical engineering and mechanical engineering are the branches that you can get.
Other Wise if you belong to other state then your chances are very difficult for getting a seat into nit surathkal with this much rank except for mining engineering.

Check out the following link to get more information about cutoff trends at nit surathkal :-

Hello,

Metallurgy is quite good in NITK. Academics are good.

Facilities, Faculties,Campus are also good.

Placement depends on your performance because major companies recruit only selected workforce

You have to apply off campus only for major government companies which are into metallurgy

Minimum placement is 6 lakhs per annum and maximum being 34 lakhs. Last year around 87% of students got placed.

Please visit the link given below for further details:

Hope this information helps you, thank you!

Hi there!

Since you specifically mentioned Chemical Engineering, it all boils down to the college. NIT Warangal is much better than NIT Karnataka in terms of Faculty, Placements, etc. NIT Warangal, NIT Trichy and NIT Surathkal are always among the top 3 NITs in India.

I do not have any idea whether you can change your branch at NIT Karnataka. At NITW, Based on your 1st year's CGPA, you can slide into the branch of your choice. Let me tell you, its neither easy nor tough !

The branch slide results have been out a week ago and many chem and biotech students have successfully made it to ece, cse, mech, etc.

The thing with faculties is that, students will never be satisfied. They will always find faults even with good faculties. I prefer not to speak on that.

The choice is yours ! Both are good, while NITW has an edge.

Good luck !

Dear aspirant

Sadly there is no defence quota in any of the nits let alone nit surathkal. If Karnataka happens to be your home state where this respective nit is, then the cutoff ranks for you are 3561-38716 as per the past year cutoffs.

Cutoffs are least for computer engineering and highest for mining engineering.

Cutoffs ranges from 2156 to 27212 if Karnataka is not the home state

Use the link below for a detailed cutoff for each course.

Good luck

Dear Aspirant,

With a rank of 16950 it is tough to get NITK mechanical engineering as the past year cutoff was 8980 in the 7th round but you still can get Metallurgy or Civil Engineering.Hope I have resolved your query. But my advice to you would be to apply to other NITs and the top private colleges. So best of luck and may you excel in JEE Advanced.

Dear aspirant you have secured a very good rank in obc category and depending on your category and home state quota, in nit surathkal you can get almost all branches. If you are a male student and belong to home state, then with your obc category you can easily get chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical and materials engineering, mining engineering, electrical and electronics engineering.
Now if you are a female student and belong to home state with the obc category then you can get all the branches mentioned above as well as cse, electronics and communication engineering, and information technology.

Hello aspirant

Congratulations for getting 16950 rank in jee main.

NITk is one of the best ranked nits. Its hard to predict exact chance of getting admission in a college as college cutoff vary on various factor's. One can analyze past year cutoff to know chance for admission in current year.

Factor affecting college cutoff

1.No of student

2. No of seats

3. Difficulty level of paper

4. Past year trends.

Last year closing rank for home state students for nitk mechanical engineering.
