Thapar University gives preference to GATE qualified students. So,  if you have qualified GATE you will already get preference over the candidates who did not qualify GATE and therefore you also have a high chance of admission. Also I am pretty sure your rank will secure you a spot in their ME department (according to previous year trends) . You will also need an aggregate of 60% (55% for sc/st)marks in your BE.

Hey, the admissions for BTech (Computer science engineering) are open for 2019.

So if your son wants to take admissions to BE/BTech programs then there are two different modes:

1) (70% of the seats are done on the percentile-merit based of JEE Main score – 2019).

2) (30% of total seats for BE/BTech seats shall be filled on the basis of merit of marks secured in 10+2 or equivalent examination in the aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, and Technical Vocational subject)

See mainly the main campus offers better education and life scenarios in the college under the same name. But one cannot question about the placement of the other campus of THAPAR as it is also very good.

See most of the private college put theeir best students in the main campus so it totally depends upon the marks u will get in the entrance exam and the preferences u have made to take admission in the college while choosing it.
