Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar National Institute of Technology or NIT Jalandhar as a university was established in 1987 initially as the “Regional Engineering College” and then Deemed to the status of “National Institute of Technology” by the Government of India in 2002. The university has been declared as the “Institute of National Importance” by the Government of India and the Indian Parliament in 2007. It provides high-quality technical education in several streams of engineering, sciences. NIT Jalandhar has a faculty strength of 208 teaching staff and 4067 students. The campus area of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar National Institute of Technology covers 154 acres. NIT Jalandhar is a co-educational campus with 16 departments and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. The university is mandated by the UGC act and possesses 78th rank in the overall category and 49th rank in the engineering category in NIRF 2021 Rankings. The varsity scholarships provide financial aid and scholarships for students coming from different economic backgrounds, parental income and helps meritorious students with financial aid as a reward for their hard work. The student will have to meet certain criteria for awarding the scholarships and these range from academic merit for parental income, enrollment level of education, type of programme enrolled and extra conditions such as no other scholarship should be availed by students. Some NIT Jalandhar scholarships such as merit-cum-means scholarships help in providing the students with a tuition waiver for students and every year more than a good number of scholarships are awarded in each category. The amount which is distributed to the students is decided by the scholarship provider and a good amount of percentage is scholarships are reserved for people coming from SC/ST backgrounds and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
