Autonomous are the colleges which are affiliated to some other universities (most of them are affiliated to vtu) but still they form their own syllabus and conduct their own exams. However, degree is provided by vtu. But According to me VTU is better compared to autonomous. Since VTU is upgrading its syllabus according to the requirement of the market or to the new technology and students also get vast knowledge about the subject or the course which they are studying.

Type A courses are offered by VTU, UVCE and UBDTCE while Type B courses are offered by  Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Mathematics and Computer Science, Kuvempu University and Department of Studies in Computer Science, University of Mysore. see karnataka pgcet exam is for admission in mba, mca or m.e /m.tech courses. the eligibility criteria for all course is you need to have 50% marks in your graduation course in relevant discipline. now you need to convert you cgpa to percentage using the conversion rules of your university and apply for  pgcet.

You can change your branch if you fit under it's all elligibility criteria.You need to be in 3rd semester without any backlog in previous two semesters.You should comes under top 5 rank in your branch.There should be vacant seat in that branch in which you wanted to choose.Your percentage should be greater than 70%.If you comes under this criteria then you can change your stream..

Yes if it's about the same college VTU then if vacancies are available in the aeronautical branch then you can switch after the first year. And if you are in another some college right now or don't have vacancies available in your own college aeronautical branch, then you would need to give the entrance exam again.. And would need to get the merit marks first as per the cutoff of VTU aueronautical branch and then repeat the first year as well.
