Government Polytechnic College Kottayam was started in the year 1960 and is one of the leading technical institutions of the state of Kerala. This affiliated college, recognized by AICTE, provide different diploma courses in different engineering streams. Located on a sixty-five thousand three hundred and fifty sqm of area, the college earns a total enrolled students of nine hundred and eight and a total faculty of thirty four. Being one of the most sought after polytechnic colleges across the country imparting education in technical fields, the Government Polytechnic College, Kottayam has been preparing young engineers for more than 60 years.

The Government Polytechnic College boasts of possessing one of the best facilities to support the learning needs of its learners. Affordable and well stocked practical laboratory is provided for different departments and thus practical knowledge is imparted to the students. There are 300M2 of specially designed library with adequate accommodation and resources that include books, newspapers, magazines, CDs etc the school has an estimated of 15,000 books available for borrowing and codex, technical and general reading from technical and general assorted reading section and a reading/conference room and a full digital library. In order to facilitate students, there are separate hostels for boys as well as girls students. The college also has fine IT facility which is very important in the present technical era. Facilities available to sports enthusiasts include; 200m track, Ball Badminton court, and shuttle Badminton court. First aid facilities are available at a health centre as well as a common gym and a canteen to enhance the students’ health and all rounded development.

Government Polytechnic College, Kottayam is having the total of seven diploma courses now and all are full-time courses having duration of three years only. These courses are for the different branches of engineering that ensures the students are offered different careers. The college offers diploma courses in various fields, and the total sanctioned strength of the students is 350.
