What is Mathematics and Computing Engineering

Mathematics and Computer Engineering is an integration of mathematics and computer science and financial engineering. This course provides comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical training in computer science, mathematical finance and numerical computing. It was introduced due to the need for sophisticated mathematics for technological development and modern scientific investigation. 


This discipline of engineering has three major components: mathematics, computing and financial engineering which are merged together so that the mathematical and analytical components can form the basis for the technological aspects of computing and finances. The subjects included in this course are an introduction to computing, basic electronics laboratory, matrix computations, data structure algorithms, computer networks, computer organization and architecture. 


The course is divided into 3 major parts mathematics, computing and financing. Each part has different core subjects such as - 

The first major part of this course is Mathematics which consists of Mathematics I, Mathematics II, Mathematics III, modern algebra and real analysis. The second part of this program consists of Database Management Systems, Operating Systems, Digital Logic Design, Architecture and Computer Organization, Algorithm Design and Analysis, Data Structures, and Object-Oriented Programming. The third part is Financing which includes Financial Engineering, Engineering Economics, Stochastic Calculus for Finance. The other associated subjects are Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Scientific Computing, Computer Graphics, SPPS, Probability and Statistics, MATLAB, Matrix Computations.

What does a mathematics and computing engineer do? 

A graduate in mathematics and computing engineering are taught programming, discrete mathematics and financial engineering which they use to tackle issues related to finance. Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Mathematics and Computing Engineering

  • Eligibility criteria for admission in B.Tech Mathematics and Computing Engineering: The minimum educational qualification required for candidates is passing class 10+2 with Science stream or its equivalent from any other relevant board within India. Having a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in class 12th is essential for candidates. Applicants under reserved categories such as SC/ST are allowed a relaxation up to 5%. The qualifying exam must be with Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and an extra subject of the students choice. For major institutes like IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), students need to qualify JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examinations) & JEE Advanced.

  • Eligibility criteria for admission in M.Tech in Mathematics and Computing Engineering: Candidates need to have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computing Engineering with an aggregate of 50%. Candidates must qualify GATE to study this course in IITs. 


Admission Criteria - Mathematics and Computing Engineering

For B.Tech Mathematics and Computing Engineering: Admission in B.Tech Mathematics and Computing Engineering is given through two methods: entrance examinations (JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT and VITEEE) or direct admission. Applicants need to qualify entrance exams such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, VITEEE and SRMJEEE to get admission in the top institutes of India. Direct admission is conducted on the basis of the marks obtained by students in class 10+2. 

For M.Tech Mathematics and Computing Engineering: Aspirants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computing Engineering with a minimum aggregate of 50%. Admission in IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) is done by evaluating the marks achieved by candidates in GATE.

JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination)

JEE Main is a national level entrance exam conducted for admissions in top institutes of India. It is regulated twice a year by NTA (National Test Agency). AI and machine learningwhich deals with predicting the outcomes of various things is one of the subjects of computer science which deals with Mathematics, AI is based on pure mathematics, there are more research based subjects in Computer Science such as projectile motion and other physics based projects.

Hello Nithish, you can atudy Bachelor of engineering in Computer science, despite that you don't have CS in 12th. As you will not face any difficulty regarding the same. As in the college, your studies will start from a new level, and nothing is related to the previous courses of computer. So you can do it with ease.

Placement of this branch at nit agartala is nil in IT Company, some of our senior student get placed in coaching institute. I know syllabus of Mnc contains more coding subject than other b.tech branches except cse at nit agartala. But reality is no IT company make us eligible to sit into placement.
