Hi,

Last year , the closing rank for Chemical Engineering was 1314 ST Category rank. This is Gender Neutral cutoff. Chemical Engineering doesn't have Female quota. With 2001 ST rank, you could get other branches like ECE, EEE, Civil in NIT Surathkal.

The Placement of Civil Engineering in NIT Surathkal is good but not as good as CSE, ECE. On an average around 80-90% students got placed but their average package is around 5-6 lakh which is quite low when compared to other branches. Since not many core Companies recruit these days, its get a bit Difficult to get placed in Civil Engineering while compared to other branches.

Most NITs allow branch change. Some of the NITs which allow branch change are NITK Surathkal, NIT Warangal, NIT Calicut, NIT Patna, NIT Silchar, VNIT Nagpur etc. The change of branch is permitted only to vacancies as per eligibility and category of admission. You may be allowed a change of branch, strictly in the order of merit subject to the limitation that the present strength of students in any branch at most can be increased by three.

You haven't mentioned the category you belong to as in General/GEN EWS/OBC-NCL or SC, assuming you belong to GEN PwD category, based on 2020 cut-offs in the sixth round of JOSSA for OPEN PwD(Gender Neutral), you may have chances in the following department through home state quota in NITK Surathkal-

• Civil Engineering - 375
• Electrical and Electronics Engineering- 307
• Mechanical Engineering- 374
• Metallurgical and Materials Engineering - 1208
